Is it just me, or does that new game show, "Moment of Truth"...come across as a slightly upscaled Jerry Springer?

I don't watch much television and this one blew me away, as I witnessed entire families putting themselves through sensationalism for the chance at money.   The purse is larger but the premise is the same.   People seemingly will do anything for a buck, including the emotional upheaval and destruction of those we claim to love.

Haven't seen that show yet, but i think Dr. Phil is deteriorating to the Jerry Springer level.[:o]

     Speaking of TV shows deteriorating......

I watch very little TV myself, but I remember a time when "Maury Povich" used to be a talk show, with information and discussions on a variety of topics.  The last few times I've caught part of it (couldn't stand to watch the entire show), it has turned into a "Teen Girls Gone Wild/Teen Girls Out Of Control/Paternity Test Proves Who's Your Baby's Daddy" type show.  One show that stands out in my mind had a woman on it, who was **SURE** that this guy was her baby's daddy.  Of course, he wasn't.  And after Maury calmed down her hysterical histrionics, he told her that he would continue doing paternity tests until he found out who the father was.   Oh.  Did I mention that this was the  ~~17th ~~ paternity test he had done for this woman????????   *shakes head sadly*

Is it any wonder that I watch so little TV?   I mean, really, who needs to watch all this garbage??

Sorry if I hijacked your question, AlwaysLisa, but this seemed like a good place to throw in my two cents worth.  I have never seen "Moment of Truth", except in promo trailers.   But I guess it proves that people will do anything for a buck.

I have *NEVER* watched American Idol, Survivor, The Great Race, Dr. Phil, Oprah, nor any of the other "mega-hit"  "can't miss 'em"  TV shows.    When it comes to what are considered  popular TV shows, I am totally perplexed as to why they are thought of as so great.

OK, mini-rant over.  We now return you to our regularly scheduled thread.......

*picks up her soapbox, tucks it under her arm, and quietly exits, stage left*

It sucks that you can't even get away with lying to yourself.

Did you ever cheat on your husband?

Yes

Do you think your Ex Boyfriend is the guy you should have married?

Yes

Do you think you're a Good Person?

Yes.

Sorry, that answer is false. You lied.

I think the questions on the show really make people double think there answer. Most people end up guessing because that really don't know the answer to the hypothetical and how you feel about yourself questions.

Bound2One -> RE: One in the same? (3/16/2008 11:17:55 PM)

It's really a hideous show, isn't it?  And they advertise full-on during American Idol, which I watch with my kids.  That leads to interesting questions from the 7yo and eyebrow raising from the older ones who get what's going on.  ::sigh::

The taste for watching people humiliate themselves in public is a complete mystery to me.

Me also.

Call me weird but I've not seen any of the television programmes mentioned above.

Besides, there is enough, soap opera like, drama here.
