Imagine the left wing writing an anti-American tune like this.

I see your point, but it is kinda hard to imagine the political left doing so.... too many of them despise and mock religion.

Can you name names?

Most of the lefties I know are church goers and/or fear god.

I could name several that post here on a regular basis....................... [:)] But I won't.

Of course there are liberals that believe, and Dems like myself that believe. But there are significant chunks of the left that dismiss religion, especially Christianity.

I decided to look at Owners video, ie in the first post , and I have to ask this, Other than the fact that some statements were made the Rachel doesnt agree with, did she have much to say?
Not a lot IMO, but she did say it a great length.

Ah, but the ones singing the song in your OP aren't elected Republicans....[:D]

And, I honestly wonder, how many on both sides of the aisle truly are religious, at times.... they act like it's more a matter of political benefit to proclaim they are.

Here is my outsider's point of view; those from the left who dismiss Christianity have come to despise that particular religion because of the bible bashing by the extreme Christian right. It's completely off putting. Especially when they brandish the Bible as if it were universal truth. You must admit that it's not very tolerant of others, to try and make policies out of a book.

Out of intolerance grows more intolerance; and I'm afraid the Christian right in America is one of the most intolerant group of people one can find.

I'd also like to add that in other countries, nobody gives a toss about Christianity, simply because Christians elsewhere don't use their religion as a means to garner political power.

DupedDom -> RE: Why should God bless America? (3/18/2008 7:41:11 AM)

Well, the New Testement is very tolerant. And where do you get a guideline to live your (not you in peticular) life?? From the television??

The New Testament is not tolerant; it's thanks to the New Testament that Christians waged wars on other people under the pretence that they wanted to convert them - since conveting the unbeliever is part of the Christian credo.

As for my personal beliefs... they're none of your business.

...interesting argument, given your earlier post about how you don't want homosexuals to be teachers. Perhaps you could point out in the New Testament where it condemns homosexuality? After all, the NT is the part of the bible that defines christianity.
As for where guidelines come from, religion is merely one way to live a good life. Some of us can derive our sense of ethics and morality for ourselves. You may suggest that is remiss of me, but then i don't care what gender people who teach kids prefer to sleep with.

joanus -> RE: Why should God bless America? (3/18/2008 8:57:09 AM)

LOL I loved that post about america being blessed with land, resources and what have you, but your forgeting one thing; No god gave those to america. They took them by force, and who ever comes after them, will then be "blessed".

There is some truth in what you say, kittin, but there are also some on the left (and the right, just fewer) that simply see religion as an ass-backwards belief, a refuge for the ignorant. [:)]

...ah, but be fair Level.........some on the right (and the left, just fewer) pretend to have religious beliefs because they want power and the religious voting bloc wont give their favour to aethists.

...thanks for that...although i was really hoping for dupeddom to respond, because the next question is how many times the NT condemns usury (the lending or borrowing of money at interest) and whether or not duped has an interest paying bank account.

Not gona run for My bible here, but usuary is the practice of lending at extreme (too high and unfair) rates of interest.  There is nothing, so far as I know, that prohibits fair lending and honest borrowing.  *shrug*

From the Parable of the Talents:
Matthew 25:26-27
quote:

"His master replied, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
