Exactly ......... and that concept starts back in their teenage years and never seems to change ....

Who's lying? Do we really even care?

Too true. I think once a person has entered public life, they have to be ready for any below-the-belt (no pun intended) strike they may get. It's a shark's game - and we, the populace, aren't part of the team.

We're just sheep bleeting along with what the media tells us to think... who knows how much more sordid the truth is? Perhaps Spitzer was horribly framed. It wouldn't be surprising, considering the current level of American politics. It's all quite ugly.

But what entertainment, aye [:'(] .

My question to women and men alike is where do we draw the line when our spouse is caught cheating?

Some people cannot afford to draw a line due to emotional or financial reasons. It is a very costly thing for some people to do. I do not judge standing behind someone that has cheated necessarily. We all weigh the costs and benefits of leaving any sort of relationship, and that is really a personal calculation. As one that had to make that determination at only 23, it isn't an easy easy equation to find the solution to, especially if you have a UM and community property to consider.

It is very easy to say what we would do in a certain situation, but impossible to know what we would do unless we were put in that person's shoes.

I suspect that if she divorced him straightaway she would miss out on completely draining his wallet and making everyday a living fucking hell for him.

You know, that was one of the sweeter aspects of keeping him begging for a year for me to come back... the living hell thing was sort of fun to inflict upon him (hhmmmm maybe I do have a little sadist in me[;)])

Most high level politicians who are competent at their jobs use sex with others to drain off the stress.

I think Spitzer should have stayed in office. This is something for his wife to consider. It has no bearing on his ability to run the state without corruption. He used his own money always, not state funds.

As a NY state resident, I'd rather have him spending his money on call girls, then spending my money on helping his cronies get rich the way the previous governor did. And the way I fear the new governor may.

Maybe, but if they can't control their sexual pulsions... how can they be in control of anything else? What a cock-up.

I would say the use of a call girl represents a rather calculated control of sexual desire.  He wasn't busted with a 19 year old intern, or a sexual harassment situation with an aid.  He had an itch, and found someone to scratch it.  Guys far lower down the food chain would be priased and cheered for what he did.  It isn't what he did that matters; it's because the story sells the kind of thing we look for in every other celebrity scandle.

Sadly, it'll be expensive (I think) to the state of New York in the long run.

I don't have a problem with what he did. I don't condone it, but it ain't my business. I have a problem with him being a hypocritical shitbag. Just like McCain is a hypocritical shitbag, for similar reasons (not sex).

Sorry if i sound rude... but I call bollocks to that; "calculated control of sexual desire"... more like deviant fantasies that couldn't be fulfilled by wifey [:D].

Men who go to prostitutes are shitheads anyway (I have my wet umbrella, for the flames).

It's the term "the use of a call girl" I find objectionable: she may be selling her body, but she's not a fucking Kleenex. That was just... plain... wrong. [;)]

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: Stand by Your Man? (3/18/2008 6:22:16 AM)

i stood by my ex the first time when i discovered he was cheating on me however i got sorely burned in the end for doing it.  he accused me of cheating on him - how could i when i was the one attached to UMs 24/7.  i didn't stand by him the 2nd time (and after the verbal/physical abuse).  i kicked him out ...and that was 4yrs ago on this date.

Sure [:D] . Let's say it again: I feel sorry for the prostitutes, having to go with shitheads like them [8D] .

xxblushesxx -> RE: Stand by Your Man? (3/18/2008 8:16:20 AM)

Hmm...I think there is a place for prostitutes, but at the same time, any man who is married or in a sexual relationship with someone who goes to a prostitute, imo, has to be man enough to tell that person what he is doing. Too much risk for disease not to let the other person know.

I absolutely agree with you, and I think prostitutes should be treated with a hell of a lot more consideration than what they're getting (especially those who aren't "high class hookers" like the one that went with Spitzer).

Doesn't stop me from thinking the men who do commerce with them are arseholes though; and I feel sorry for the prostitutes for having to provide such intimate services to the drooling dogs [:D] . It takes a lot of courage, I think.

...but doesn't his blatant hypocrisy bother you? If this man was some sort of anti-drugs czar and got caught with his nose in the cocaine jar this would be a no-brainer. However, because sex is involved, some people can't seem to see it so clearly.

Yep, it's a lil rude.  I'm not bothered by your stance, we're just chatting.

God only knows what transpired between him and the prostitute (better? c'mon, there's a serious lack of socially acceptable terms for sex workers in the English language.)  I worked as a DJ in a strip club during college.  I'm probably one of the most deviant motherfuckers out there.  I can say I've never paid a pro for sex, but I've certainly slept with women who worked as prostitutes.

Men don't pay a pro for the sex.  They're paying for the fantasy of an attractive woman wanting him.  It's more on par with a therapist than it is a porno, and not intrinsically different than a woman who visits a masseuse.  The prostitute in question provides the illusion of a pretty woman who's excited by the guy.  When it's done, the guy doesn't have to worry about calling her in the morning, or establishing some sort of relationship.  He never has to see her in her oldest threadbare underwear, or when she's blubbering about her sick mother, or when she's pissed off that her car got towed.  He gets to enjoy the glamor, without having to look at the man behind the curtain.  I don't think there's anything shitheadish about it, so long as he pays his taxes, does his job, and otherwise takes care of his family.  I do have issues with a man promising sexual fidelity to his partner, and then breaking that word, but I can think of a number of types of men (lawyers or doctors who work 100 hours a week for example) who would make a lousy husband or boyfriend, who do the female population a favor by getting their sexual needs met by a pro, rather than string along a nice girl so that he can occasionally feel a warm body next to him from time to time (a human need, that would otherwise go unmet.)

I've pointed out that the hypocrisy of this issue is, indeed, appalling.  But that doesn't mean every guy who wants to see a pro must be some kind of loser.  Certainly many are, but that's on them.

Stephan

Thanks for not taking offence - sometimes, I get a little carried away. And I swear like a fishwife [8D] .

Anyhow... I knew the arguments you put forth about prostitution and those men that go to them. As long as nobody gets hurt, it's none of my business. I object to prostitution (consensual - let's not forget the large numbers of prostitutes who are in there because they had no choice, or worse, because they were coerced into it) on an esthetic level more than anything: I think it's an ugly thing, that a man resorts to pay a for a woman's body. If it truly were about therapy sessions, the men would see a therapist :-) .

I don't want to hijack with a huge debate over prostitution - but I don't like the idea of the clients very much. I have mucho respecto for the whores, on the other hand. Personally, I couldn't be with a man who went with whores... but that's just me.

For what it's worth, I object to two men having sex on an aesthetic level as well.  I couldn't have sex with a man, who had sex with men [;)]

And yeah, it's really none of my business either.  I know what it's like to dislike something, because it bothers you, but understanding that consenting (yes, that's a big point for me too) adults should be entitled to do whatever they wish.

Stephan
