This is wierd. I got a mail, it was concerning something on the message boards and I replied. Once.

Not long after they send me another mail "You sent me that message six times ?". I did not.

Is this some sort of glitch, or possibly an error in the software ? This would be good to know because I only want to send what I want to send.

There is no "Autospam" button, the only thing I did was to hit the back button a few times trying to get back to the main page. Incidentally it does not work. (IE6 WinXP Pro w/SP1). It keeps bringing up the mail page. Is it possible it resends it every time I hit "back" ?

If that is what is happening I could work around it most likely by just leaving and coming back every time I send a mail.

Thing is though, is this a temporary thing or is it a hard error ? Just so happens that today I replied to about four mails, usually it is only one. I have been told before that I seem to have sent the same message twice, but never six times.

Can anyone shed some light on this ?

Yep. I'd suggest it is completely possible it tried to send another email each time you hit back on the same page. Back is a pain in the ass for websites with posting because often the Back indicates "Please send that again".

There are ways for site developers to work around that kind of issue, but it is a common occurance.

Some sites will resend emails when you hit the back button after you send a message. I'd just click on Home button to get back to the main page.
