I've never really written this recipe down, but, this is how I make my beef vegetable soup, which people fight over.


half large onion, chopped
2 teaspoons chopped garlic
3 lbs (more or less) sirloin or other type of steak cut to bite sized pieces
3 tablespoons Italian seasoning
3 whole peppercorns
one half teaspoon of salt (more or less to taste)
2 bay leaves
half lb carrots cut in small pieces
1 can whole tomatoes
1 small can tomato paste
3 or 4 med. to large potatoes cut into bite size pieces
corn, peas, and green beans to taste

Put one and a half tablespoons of olive oil in a large soup pan and heat, when hot enough, put in onions and garlic. Cook until tender. Remove from pan. Add another one and a half tablespoons of olive oil, and sear beef until browned. Add the onions and garlic, and fill 2/3s of the way with water. Pour the juice from the cans of tomato into the soup, cut up some of the tomatoes, (3-5) and add to the soup.

Fill a tablespoon with the Italian seasoning, take another tablespoon and lay it on top to crush the seasoning. Add to soup. Do that with the other two tablespoons of seasoning. Add three whole peppercorns, one half teaspoon of salt, and two bay leaves.

Add in the other vegetables, bring to a boil, and allow to simmer for a few hours. If the consistancy of the soup is too thin, add some or all of the tomato paste; too thick? more water. Before serving, remove the bay leaves.

This takes a while, but is very easy and delicious. Serve it with crusty bed and good beer or wine.

Any my apologies for setting the soup nazi with Friends instead of Seinfeld.  Obviously, I don't watch enough TV to know the difference.

Okay....Kirrens kick ass killer Chicken and Dumplins...

Use what ever parts you like...I like dark meat...so well go with that....


8 Chicken thighs...boiled til tender...But you really dont want em fallin off the bone.

2 cans Cream of Chicken soup....

salt and pepper to taste
Chicken bulion paste...much better than the cubes.
Garlic to taste
Chopped onion about two thick slices diced nicely.
A slight slight bit of poultry seasoning

Boil chicken...while waiting for it to cool so you can debone it:
Add the cream of chicken soup and then do up your dumplins...I generally used canned biscuits because I dont have counter space for to roll out real ones...but I use butter flavored grands...it makes them soooo much better.

Roll them in flour and squish em down flat....I generally use about 2-3 cans...depending on which you like better...dumplins or chicken...

Boil on medium for about 30 minutes or until dumplins are cooked. Dont panic, they may look like balls of fluff in there...(Popsi called em volly ball dumplins...so its fun that way)


When thats all done...have some brownies and chocolate ice cream....If you have room.

Tracey Taken, I don't know what you are referring to about "Friends parting ways". I did get into a heated discussion with a couple of guys about  Gspot znd sub-space. I'm sure you can find the thread, only the mud has been removed. But, I learned a lesson from that experience and I won't "dis" anyone on these forums again.

Actually, I love to cook and was just interested in this thread. Period. Sorry if you took it wrongly.

I love to engage passionately in lively debate, especially when the subject matter matters to me.

But I love food too.  I was wondering if folks might be willing to step away from the "issues" long enough to share "My most favorite of all time" recipes. 

OH. boy, do I have some much-loved recipes.

I didn't used to own a restaurant which didn't specialize in southern Mexican cuisines, as I didn't tell Alumbardo the other day when I didn't quote what Zagat didn't say about it, and when I didn't give him a link to the ATlanta Journal COnstitution, which didn't have a favorable review of my non-existent restaurant. (enough sarcasm, I guess).

That is almost sorta like a Minestrone. I put stuff together like that, too, and it usually comes out great. Sounds yummy.

I don't recall if I put a pic of it up (I know it's on my b.com profile), but I have an arbor at my front door and I have a Madison Jasmine growing up it and under my bathroom window. My bedroom picks up a hint of jasmine when there are blloms and it's cool enough to open the bathroom window.
