Well...... NY gov Elliot Spitzer is barely out the door, and incoming gov David Paterson has already admitted to having an affair (so did his wife [X(]). Should this matter to us, the public?

quote:

With his predecessor's term doomed by a sex scandal, brand-new Gov. David Paterson tried to come clean about his own skeletons just hours after assuming office by acknowledging a years-old affair.

Paterson was sworn in almost exactly a week after allegations first surfaced that former Gov. Eliot Spitzer was "Client 9" of a high-priced call girl service. Responding to rumors circulating in Albany, Paterson and his wife, Michelle, told the Daily News of New York City that both had affairs during a rough patch in their marriage several years ago.

"This was a marriage that appeared to be going sour at one point," Paterson told the Daily News. "But I went to counseling and we decided we wanted to make it work. Michelle is well aware of what went on."

i figure it's only a big deal if they're being hypocritical about it... i know, it's a betrayal of their vows/trust/etc., but the man on the street isn't privy to everything that's going on in their relationship, and there can be mitigating factors.

Now, if they're thumping the "Family Values" drum, or enjoying illegal prostitutes after campaigning for "Law and Order", or voting against gay rights but cruising for some same-sex sucky-sucky for themselves... Nuh uh. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Even American voters have to draw the line somewhere.

What I want to know is, with all these people at it all the while - how come I'm not getting any?

Maybe I should run for election and having won, offer favours through my orifice?

My dear erectorate can call me what they will. However since free speech can be a dangerous thing, I shall be introducing gags throughout the time any favours of orifice are indulged.

I want to know why they always use the descriptor "high priced call girl".  Are there any low priced call girls?  Or is it only the high priced ones who get involved in scandals?

As far as Paterson, perhaps he and his wife enjoy a swinger's relationship?

I think that our main concern should be a politician's ability to govern. I don't receive performance appraisals from my employers that address what I do when I am not in the office, and really don't think it should be anyone's business.

That being said, I did pick choice #3, because hypocrisy makes me itch. I believe that if I went around publicly stating I am against whatitiswedo, I would have earned any fallout that occurred if someone found me here, for example.

Most politicians would prefer a five bucks hand job from a crack whore; but if they got caught, it would look even worse than an expensive prostitute. Hence the "high priced call girl".

DesFIP -> RE: Screwing around & politics; should it matter? (3/18/2008 8:55:31 AM)

I don't care what people do in private as long as both parties consent. I do care if a public official is using my money to  buy call girls, hotel rooms, or giving his cronies high paying job titles with no responsibility.

It's nobody's business what The Man and I do in our bedroom as long as it doesn't compromise our ability to parent. Same when translated to the public arena.

sub4hire -> RE: Screwing around & politics; should it matter? (3/18/2008 9:30:19 AM)

The country didn't care when Kennedy was doing it in the 60's, why should we care now?  We've only become more liberal with sexuality as a whole.

Just don't use my money unless I get cut in somehow.  When their home life goes to shit, don't wonder why and make it public knowledge.  I don't care to hear about it.

Lashra -> RE: Screwing around & politics; should it matter? (3/18/2008 10:08:10 AM)

I could care less who they screw as long as it doesn't affect their job performance.
