I've had good results both ways. I've even met wonderful D/s companions in completely non-Kink areas of life (Ok, they wouldn't qualify as vanilla, but they weren't BDSM.)

I meet people where I meet people. I'm out about who and what I am, so if there's a compatible interest, we go from there.

If I were to give a nod to any one way to meet people, it would be simply to be open and honest (and confident) about yourself wherever you go. Smile and talk to people a lot. That's how we make connections, no matter what the area of interest is. Oh yeah, and don't be afraid to pursue other interests and paths. They all come together eventually.

I actually sat next to my current owner at a Munch. I wasn't going to the munch to meet anyone, either. I was just bored on a Sunday afternoon, hadn't been to the local munch in over a year and said, 'what the hell, I think I'll go."

I met my girl through a munch. The boy I just added to my house I found here on collarme. Still looking for my 3rd/house boy/girl.

I prefer the Munch setting since I can watch how they behave and get to know them some first. Using an online search I have to sort through hundreds of e-mails, phone calls and no shows. Many people don't or can't grasp the concept of a multi slave house. My house runs much like an old manor house. I use my girl to screen the applicants and many seem to take issue with that. "I don't take orders form other slaves" is a common quote. I figure if they can't talk to her now they won't listen to her when they are in my house. Since she acts as my majordomo it's important that they get use to dealing with her from the start.

When meeting people through a Munch they are already aware of how my house functions. It's just that the Munch is such a small pool to pick from. Online you have thousands to pick from.

I met my girl through an ad she had in alt.com. We did everything that folks warn you against (with good reason) We got to know each other through emails, and very lengthy long distance phone calls, before meeting a month or so later. We had 2 dates - played on the 2nd date. I moved her in 4 days after that. Again, a big no-no, with very good reason. Any number of things could have gone wrong. Thankfully they didn't.

Some how I was lucky going with my gut instinct, and it all worked out for the best. She has been with me for over 4 yrs now. However, I would never recommend following my example to a novice.

Nor will I repeat this, when pursuing a 2nd. I plan on getting to know them better, and taking my time. Be it in a munch scenereo, or online.

I met my wife online though a non sex-based chatroom. I met my submissive playmate on the bus to work.
