Has anyone else found it necessary to end their profile on here due to not finding what your looking for? I recently got rid of my profile of 2 years now because I was tired of not getting replies back to my emails, or no emails being sent my way out of interest. Now, when I send out an email to someone, I make sure that it has probing questions, is polite and thought provoking, has no suggestive connotations or slang, and is in genuine interest to the person its being sent to. So why the lack of interest then or the lack of at least manners? After 2 years of having a decent profile, the only people from this website I have ever met are people I already have known from the various parties, munches, and functions I routinely attend. I have yet to meet someone for the first time on here and that makes me wonder if 2 years is a bit over-long for that.

Anyways, didnt mean to get carried away with this. Im just disgruntled with this a bit and venting some tonight.

I guess the question that remains is: Has anyone else taken their profile down out of discouragement or lack of interest?

I've made mine inactive a few times but got over it.

I've revamped mine a couple of times to upgrade it and make it more specific.

It sounds odd that you get absolutely no replies. Some folks have mentioned problems with the system where they never get mail they know was sent. So maybe you've had technical difficulties all along and assumed it was lack of interest.

I've changed my profile out of frustration. I probably would disable it out of frustration if the time came. Think that the point about technical issues is valid. You might try a new name/ profile when you're feeling more positive about the process. I also think that posting on the boards /being active on the site is a good start.

I have only been a member of this site for ten days, and I have found several people to correspond with as well as meet. I don't think it is the profile that matters. You gotta post in the forums, show up in the chat rooms. A profile is nothing, just a pic and a few words. If you want people to talk to you, then you have to let them get to know you. Be open and sincere and participate.
Don't just sit and wait, come out and talk to people.

Generally the only thing I ever change in my profile is my age once a year and the years of experience.

I see a profile as a snapshot of the person, someone who changes names a lot shows they are still actively searching for a true expression of who they are and probably new and over-excited. Someone who changes their profile a lot shows they are unsure of how to portray themselves and working things out.

This is a generalized perspective of course, exceptions occur.

If you get frustrated and decide this isn't the right site for you, then more power to you. Seek your bliss.

I have changed my profile to be more definitive and exact. I guess if someone deletes their profile then they aren't here to tell anyone so we wouldn't know.

I also have not received any kind of interest in my profile from the thousands of women in NM who are just waiting for a guy like me (Yeah, right!), but I find that I enjoy reading the threads here so I keep it active. I AM learning a lot and finding that there is a lot more to learn.

I've made mine inactive several times... Just long enough to regain my sense of humor and ability to be civil to responders or long enough to determine if the new potential has real potential with me.
I'm sorry you're down about it, and hope you will feel better, M

Perhaps I should clarify this a bit. I do get emails back, but 99% of the time its from people who already know me in the local area. Plus, I would routinely check my sent email to see if it had been looked at or not. The vast majority of the time when I send out emails, think 9 out of 10, they simply get read and discarded. So its definately not a technical issue, just a moral one.

Well said, EmeraldSlave2. I would update my journal or occasionally add something more to my main profile as my experience grew, but in the main, the majority of it was the same as the day I created it.

I will keep your example in mind, BlkTallFullfig. Perhaps sometime I will find my sense of humour about it and post it again. *Shrugs* Thank you though.

To everyone else, thank you kindly for your replies. For now though, I will be content to keep the profile deleted and simply watch and occasionally post in the forums when something catches my eye.

Actually on the forums is a good place to be, because you get to read how people think on different subjects, and once in a while, someone catches your attention.
Good luck, M
