Level -> The "almost" Neat little math trick (3/20/2008 4:19:11 PM)

Got this in an email:

YOUR AGE BY EATING OUT

Don't tell me your age; you probably would tell a falsehood anyway -- but your waiter may know!

YOUR AGE BY DINER & RESTAURANT MATH

Work this out as you read ..

Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to go out to eat (more than once but less than 10).

2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)

3. Add 5

4. Multiply it by 50

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1758 .... If you haven't, add 1757.

6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number

The first digit of this was your original number (i.e., how Many times you want to go out to restaurants in a week.)

The next two numbers are YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!)

Youresomine -> RE: Neat little math trick (3/20/2008 4:24:37 PM)

Didn't work. I got 145 and I like to eat out 4 times a week and I'm 46 :(

GreedyTop -> RE: Neat little math trick (3/20/2008 4:25:21 PM)

Hmm. I have a hunch you didn't "do it" right, GT. [:D]

eroticangel -> RE: Neat little math trick (3/20/2008 4:26:08 PM)

my age was off by one year....maybe cause of leap year or something?

It's magic! [:D]

EPGAH -> RE: Neat little math trick (3/20/2008 4:28:52 PM)

It's just a divisibility trick.
Here's another one:
Take any 3-digit number and put it twice, making a 6 digit number: 696->696696
Then divide by 13
Then divide by 11
Then divide by 7
You'll get your original 3-digit number back!

I don't know. [8|]

beargonewild -> RE: Neat little math trick (3/20/2008 4:29:35 PM)

Mine was off by a year also. The answer said my age is 46 though it's actually 47!

*goes to rename the thread*

beargonewild -> RE: Neat little math trick (3/20/2008 4:34:43 PM)

Level, I reversed step 5 and when I added 1757 and then followed the rest of the instructions the answer comes out correct.

I added 1757 instead of 1756 though I haven't had a b-day this year yet.

christine1 -> RE: Neat little math trick (3/20/2008 4:36:37 PM)

well either i'm the only one who did it right or i'm the only one who did it wrong since i seem to be the only who got the right age lol....(i'll just have another sip of wine and think i did it correctly heh.)

dreamofthemoon -> RE: The "almost" Neat little math trick (3/20/2008 4:37:25 PM)

I got 325 the first time around, then 326 the second.  I added 1756 instead of 1757.  But still kinda cool, using my cell phone calculator and all.  [:)]

Thank  you, bear, that was the problem; I "fixed" the OP now. [;)]

Yeppers, my age was one less than it should have been.

Rule -> RE: The "almost" Neat little math trick (3/20/2008 5:57:15 PM)

I did not get a three digit number, but a two digit number - and it is my age.

Hm, the secret is in action 6 where one betrays in what year one is born. The waiter might as well ask for this and do without the other calculations.
