DOn't use shaving foam...but use shaving oil. (my apology for responding here).
DOn't use cheap blades ( more then 3 blades) and don't use then more then twice. IF possible...use long strokes...short ones scratch.
Use balm afther shaving ( not watery afther shave).

Damn, that's an expensive habit. I like fresh blades, too, but use em only twice?!

one of the things that i found really helped (i used to shave my ex) was using an old fashioned shaving soap and a brush to apply it with.

shower first and wash the face with a soapy washcloth, rinsing well.  (the washcloth helps remove dead skin cells and also helps the stubble stand up)

wet the shaving brush and then tap it off, it doesnt  need to be drippy.  rub the brush in a circular motion on the soap, working up a good foam.  apply to the area to be shaved with the brush, also in a circular motion.

then shave as usual.

I used both soap (with the brush, is that the correct name), but my face was always a bloody mess...lol..untill soem on pointed me at the shaving oil.
IF you use soap.. in the plastic cup...never close the lid completely while the soap is wet.
ALso it helps ....to put a hot wet towel on the part to be shaven ..before shaving.

I guess..it is trying and look what is best for the skins person

Don't use shaving foam or gel, most products are simply rubbish. Consider buying a good shaving creme and a shaving brush. For the latter you should look for a brush made of badger hair, they are more expensive than pig hair but really worth the investment.

I'm dredging this one up out of the past to say a great big to all of you who helped me with this worthy project.  Since someone asked me to share how it went, I will do so as briefly as possible.
I started out by trimming the excess with electric clippers, then cleaned his face and neck carefully with face cleanser (Neutrogena Razor Defense Face Scrub) made for that purpose.  I used the small, soft haired brush I use to clean my own face.  My Lord liked the way it felt, and I liked the clean.  I put a nicely warmed towel on his face, which he also liked.

I used a shave cream instead of a foam (Neutrogena Skin Clearing Shave Cream.)  The cream came out of a bottle like lotion, didn't foam a lot, but felt good on his skin.  The shave itself could have been closer.  I bought what I thought would be a good razor, but ended up less than thrilled.  Anyone have any suggestions on brand and type here?  His facial hair is very coarse, so it would have to be something special.  I am willing to pay a little more to get it right, since his face is special to me.
Anyway, I finished by washing his face with the cleanser and brush again, and then topped it with a moisturizer designed to avoid all of the above mentioned problems. (Nevea After Shave Extra Soothing Balm.)  Nutrogena has one, but I preferred the scent of this one, which has almost no scent at all.

We have had very few problems with a minor rash on his neck.  Other then that, it went great.  What I will do differently next time: leave the towel on longer, which means arranging better seating.  I will also try using the shave oil (bought some of that, too) to see how it works.  I am hoping to find a good razor, so am open to suggestions.
Outside of the technicals of it, we had a fabulous time.  We engaged in a little chain play before hand, and I rattled becomingly the entire time as I moved around him and touched him.  He enjoyed the view immensely, offering input when appropriate and advice when asked, but otherwise letting me pick my way through it, as usual.  (My Lord knows it's how I learn best.  )  The experience felt wonderful.  I got to do this kind of fun, sexy, yes, even loving thing for him, and he looked great.  It was fun to "dress him up" as he often does me, and I've enjoyed the benefits of it ever since...first, smooth, soft skin, now scrubbly, tickly whiskers.  All good for me.

Anyway, thank you, and thanks again!   I appreciate it immensely.

looks like everything has been covered very well ! My only addition  would be if your going to use the straight razor , buy a new one with replaceable  blades , they are much  easier to use and the replacement blades keep it sharp .If your  going the old vintage straight razor route you will need a strop or strap for sharpening your tool . The balloon training aide has been used for many years .Fill up a balloon  cover 75 % with shaving cream  , practice away .You maybe covered in  cream but you will learn with no blood .to get even better thin out the cream  even using whipped dairy cream as it thins out .Besides its great fun to watch sadistically a person  training to use a straight razor , pop pop pop , they start to look like the stay puff marshmallow man . Before shaving a person use the hot towel moisten hands and feel the area your going to shave , things like mole s and minor bumps  will get shaved right off if your not aware  .

If I may, not hijack, but cut a broader swath with this thread,  this past weekend, Mistress asked me to shave Her armpits. Scared the shit out of me, for fear that I might cut Her in such a sensitive place. Any tips from the other side as to how to do this?

A couple things Walter...

1. Hold the razor at the end of the handle aloowing the distance to act as a pressure release. Shaving with pressuer in not the answer. You do however need to hold it with an appropriate amount of contact.  Arm pits I am told gennerally require a fairly new blade.

2. Slickness. I have been told pit stick works well. I have had less than a succesfull record with it. oil of Olay body wash (lathered) does work well for many.  Find a source of slide that works for the pits and be gentle.

Any questions on more than that... Ask a woman. otherwise if it is meant to be a seduction induction, I would suggest soft lights, soft music and a soft touch. A gentle holding of the hands arms outstreched will weaken the muscles and enhance the sensitivity. Lightly carressing the skin while "slicked" may cause bumps so avoid making contact near the shaving area.

I would go on You tube and look at some videos of barbers doing shaves. That's what a man really wants, a barber style shave. LM

the item you want to address the ingrown hairs is called tend skin. you can purchase it on amazon much cheaper than you'll find in a store. it is to be used right after shaving and after the skin has been cleansed and dried. you'd use it twice per day in the beginning and then once when the problem clears up. it address ingrown hairs and the blemishes left behind by them. good luck.
