This article claims that the average sexual intercourse (among humans) lasts for 5 minutes and 24 seconds. I haven't met, yet, a woman who can orgasm in less than 10 minutes. Does that mean that still today, as it was the case 30 years ago, 95% of women are bored stiff, in bed ? Or... what ?

PS : Don't ask me how I obtained this measure of 95%... It's just a song.

Geez Pet I suppose that all depends! If using the term "sexual intercourse" only includes penatration and no play prior, then bored stiff might be the result. But! Given the right play it might only take 2 minutes and 23 seconds!

Q, who knew those damn fly's were having way too much fun!

TEN minutes? You ARE talking from the point of first contact I hope. Most people I know spend a little time in foreplay. Many spend hours if we accept that a lot of scenes can be considered foreplay. (I wonder about that since calling something that produces so many screaming orgasms "foreplay" makes one curious about the "play" that follows.)

Now, I'm hardly an expert any more since Libby and I restrict genital genital intercourse to ourselves and the orgasms of our play partners are from other sources, but Libby's first orgasm usually occurs about a minute after initial entry and is followed by others usually at 30 second to one minute intervals. Of course, we are very used to each other since we have been together 12 years and have a rule that we exchange at least one orgasm per day, health permitting. There may be a "practice factor" involved here.

In my experience (which frankly is pretty wide), actual intercourse generally lasts less than 10 minutes. Personally I get sore and bored after 15 in the few times it's continued (vaginal fullness feels good for awhile, but it's the g-spot and clit stim that gets it going for me and toys/fingers/mouths do that a lot better than penises, and after 15 minutes I'm just laying there without much sensation).

I think it just means few women orgasm from penetration intercourse, which we already know, and I don't think it's really related to the TIME. Women need specific stimulation in order to orgasm, as well as a host of other things. A guy could be slamming into me for an hour and it won't have me any closer than I was in the first 2 minutes.

If you both really want the female to orgasm during penetration alone, you can take time, work on it, and probably be able to have it happen, even if it means the woman has to stimulate herself at the same time.

Again focusing on having "an orgasm" IMO takes away from what pleasure is there to be had overall. I rarely orgasm from intercourse and then it's only when I am on top and able to control the focus and timing to get stimulation to the clit and not just the vagina.

Yes, for some reason the author of the article was not specific. I just found here the abstract of the original article published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine. They were talking about "the time between the start of vaginal intromission and the start of intravaginal ejaculation". That's still fast imho. I'm wondering if the guy who answered 33 seconds had very long play... Seriously, do people have time to enjoy each other in just 5 minutes ? Do they have time to change from one position to another, or is it for some a mission to do a quick missionary ? Shouln't there be a sexual speeding ticket ? Or maybe, on the other hand, I'm too slow (My neighbours would say too long) ? I don't know, I don't usually watch other people have sex (and porn movies make me sleep faster than anything). Just curious.

Immensly.

Personally missionary is my favorite, but yes, you can switch positions every minute or so. In fact switching positions is a great way to take a pause and draw things out longer if that's what you want. (BTW what is with the male ego thing of switching positions and still keeping the penis inside? It's nearly impossible and just makes for pulled muscles...but then I could go on about why males have such a hard time just taking a moment to make sure they are positioned right to put it in or allowing the female to help?)

If you aren't getting satisfaction or it really is TOO fast ALL the time. I said before that more than 15 minutes (of ACTUAL intercourse) leaves me bored in general, but less than 5 leaves me unsatisfied as well. If you are in a sexual relationship with your partner and it's not fulfilling, then it's up to you and your partner to work together.

In my experience (which frankly is anything but wide), simultaneous explosions often occur 10 to 20 minutes after penetration, leaving 2 victims barely alive, with their brains upside down.
And that's what I prefer.

A good thing I don't "slam".

Well, with foreplay before, not penetration alone, but yes I usually either stimulate my partner or let her do it herself, and very often she is on top, so she does control the stimulation.

I guess you're right... You MUST be right, serious books all say the same thing :).

OK. It appears I'm just slow. Good thing I found this scientific article :).

I don't think it has anything to do with the ego. Have you ever complained about it ? Remember that most men don't understand at all non verbal language. None of my partners ever complained about it, so I guess that if that make them sore they expected me to know that by telepathy.
I guess it's more about avoiding the trouble to enter again. I allow help from my partner, and I always do the entry carefully, so I can't answer either question.

I did try to "slam into my partner" (after lots foreplay, as usual) a few times. It just wasn't satisfying for either. As I said, with my latest partner, we had enormous orgasms after about 15 minutes, once per day on average, and it was fully satisfying. I was just astonished at the 5.4 minutes average.

Good deal. I've only once had a simultaneous orgasm and it was completely by chance and nothing to do with romantic notions of intimacy.

And my orgasms rarely are THAT intense...sometimes they are. Again, most females do not orgasm from penetration alone.

That definitely helps then, men are also more likely to last longer in that position too. So it might be a combination of those things which skews you towards the longer end.

As far as do I communicate with my partners? Let's just say they only try it the first time.

Simultaneous is fantastic, and very possible but I agree with John here, it's the "practice factor" that makes it repeatable over time.

some women have a tendency for multiple orgasms, and actually come very quickly. the intensity varies, though. in my personal (albeit limited) experience, penile to vaginal or anal penetration is usually only a fraction of the activity.

i can come in waaaaaaaayyyy less than 5 minutes with clitoral stimulation, and after that, it is like a snowball effect. i have had sexual intercourse without "warmup" only a couple of times, but orgasms were pretty quick to happen even that way.

so, now you have "met" a few women who come in less than 10 minutes.*grin*

and as for simultaneous, i also agree with JohnWarren. it is a practice factor. it is also a control factor. Master knows when i am starting to come, and will tell me to hold off. orgasm control is a rush for me, and to be "allowed" to come as He is has that brain-wringing-body-electric effect. depending on how much He wants to torment me, He can tell me to hold off from the start, or closer to the end.

Please forgive me, for the [highjack] but what you wrote here reminded me of something I seen on another board.
I just wanted to share this with you...

Scientists have determined that the average time of intercourse lasts 4
minutes. The average number of strokes is 9 per minute, making the
average intercourse 36 strokes.

Since the average length of a penis is 6 inches the average woman
receives 216 inches or 18 feet per intercourse. The average woman does
it about three times a week, 52 weeks annually.

156 x 18 feet makes 2808 feet or just over a half of a mile.

So, are you getting your half mile every year?

lol I just thought that was funny, and your thread reminded me of it.[/highjack]
Interesting thread you have here, btw.

Be well

Interesting. I typically orgasm well under 5 minutes, either vaginally or anally. Sometimes multiple times. I have noticed that when I do have multiple orgasms, the subsequent ones are not as powerful and satisfying as the first.
It takes me a longer time to orgasm from clitoral stimulation, the first time. Then, pretty rapid fire afterwards, and the orgasms seem to stay the same in intensity.
I don't particularly like a lot of acrobatics and position changes, those kinda ruin my groove and get me off track.

See, here now is why I like to be in charge!! I make sure it lasts longer then 00:05:24!

And for the record, I can actually make myself orgasm to ejaculation in under 2 minutes. Now I'm not saying just anyone can. But it does save on hot water in the shower in the morning!!

Futhermore, the purpose of intimicacy is not always orgasm. That said, it's always a nice way to wrap things up!

I have a strong memory of a study of sex in baboons which claimed that intercourse between baboons lasts an average of 35 seconds, and a female baboon takes about 10 minutes to reach orgasm.

Now how the FUCK did they figure out how long it takes a female baboon to reach orgasm?

Line up 18 male baboons to tag team the female baboon? That would go just a little over 10 minutes.

From what I know about scientific research, I guess they just used one PhD student. But the financial situation of scientific research in America is much better (than on the old continent), so if the study was done by an american team, they probably averaged the results of several PhD students.

Well, I'm almost positive that female baboons reach orgasm in their regular lives--just not by being penetrated by a male baboon. An expert may want to weigh in, but that's the way it is for most female primates.
