An interesting article that claims that the GOP believes Obama will now be the weaker candidate to face John McCain. The reason...race. After the Jeremiah Wright scandal, Obama lost considerable support in two very key demographics....independents and white men. Analysts believe in a McCain vs. Obama matchup....those demographics will decide the election. And the GOP believes that the Wright scandal proves that Obama is vulnerable on the issue of race. In an Obama vs. McCain matchup, the GOP will most likely paint Obama as a liberal and a "race candidate" in the mold of Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. Association with Wright gives Obama an appearance of being more "black" than "American"--and that's a definite problem for a man who must lead all Americans. Many will argue that such characterization is inaccurate and hence unfair. That may be true, but Obama's a veteran of Chicago politics: surely he gets that truth and fairness are the first casualties in a political campaign.

I thought the 'Bullets Over Bosnia' would be the swan song, but the beat goes on... Considering what else is on TV this is great entertainment. I almost feel sorry for those who bet against me concerning a Republican win come November. I'm thinking of making Trinity Church my designated charity. But it is still early, and maybe to be fair and remove race as a consideration as Senator Obama has done; Senator McCain may pick David Duke as a running mate. That could make the race tighter. What you dont understand is the Clintons put themselves before the party and the country. Hillary has been planning this election for years....decades. That whole marriage was based on this grand scheme. She will tear down the Democratic party before she gives up this run. And she still does stand a chance in getting those super delegates on her side. If this goes to the convention without a nominee or a deal....that means this thing gets decided behind closed doors. And the last thing I would want is to get into a knife-fight with the Clintons behind closed doors.

Really the only questions now are whether it is Obama or Clinton who is seceretly working in league with Ralph Nader for Karl Rove. And whether it is an active or unknowing alliance. Putting aside philosophical concerns, one has to give the Republicans credit for having an organized, disciplined primary. From a purely tactical perspective, the Republicans have a strong advantage because McCain gets to spend the spring and summer raising fund, smoothing ruffled feathers within the party, and generally acting "presidential" in the run up to a highly scripted, almost blase convention. Quite frankly, the Republicans right now look more capable of actually running a government.

The DNC and Howard Dean are also blowing it. They screwed up with Florida and Michigan. Rules or not, by taking away those delegates they alienated those states and now those states are pissed. And Dean spending money all over the place even in areas the Democrats dont stand a chance in winning. Why is he spending money in Utah where Bush won in 2004 by 70% of the vote? He's an idiot! Now the DNC is almost broke.

Two things, both kinda odd: 1) As long as they continue to bicker, the Dems get more media attention than does the GOP. 2) Other than his housing crisis speech (which amounted to "tough shit, no bail out.") and a photo op in Iraq that got undercut because he couldn't remember the difference between Suni and Shia, McCain might as well be sunning himself on the beach in Mexico, for all the media attention being paid to him. Where are the ideas? Where's the "striaght talk" and a plan for fixing things? At least Hillary had four or five ideas in her speech on the economy. Supposedly, the GOP had this huge lead in campagning, yet they seem to have all but disappeared from the news. Not that I'm complaining. They could disappear from the face of the planet, and I think it would be a good thing. So tell me again, who is squandering their time here?

If the election was held today....McCain would win 40 states. Of course the election isnt held today and polls change like the wind. But I think this is going to be a close election. The only poll that says the Dems will win a landslide is the generic no-name poll ("Which do you prefer in the White House? A Republican or Democrat?") Dems win that one 49% to 34%. But when you add in real names (McCain vs Obama/Clinton)....that poll changes radically to a dead heat.

bipolarber... The Dems are tearing each other apart... why would McCain want to get in the middle of it especially when his poll numbers are going up? I know some of the news people (who all love Obama by the way) claim this is bad for McCain because he isn't getting any press, but guess what? The polls show it doesnt matter if McCain is in the news or not. McCain at this point is the front runner in this election. The smartest thing for McCain to do is lay low and let the Dems mutilate each other and Rush Limbaugh keep playing Rev. Wright's speeches to 40 million Americans every day.

Republicans are idiots. That's really all I can say about that. If you aren't part of the 1% then you are voting against your interests every time you vote Republican. Dems aren't a lot better, but they are better by a margin. But that's looking backward in time, somewhat. Looking forward, we're in a serious pickle. I'm not sure this country can be saved or that it is even worth saving. I take pride in many of its original ideals. But I don't take any pride in the corporatist fascism that now overwhelms the republic. Many of you don't honestly know what I'm talking about. You can't vote for it and then claim you were against it. Look for your gimme and vote accordingly. Anything else is just moronic.
