msterfixer -> RE: What's In a Nick? (3/25/2008 5:54:30 PM)

My husband chose mine when he set up the profile, he used it for two years before I knew about it.  My nick name sounds like a guys.

Oh I forgot to answer the question in the OP.

What's in a nick?

Quite a lot of prisoners, some screws, lots of cells, maybe a few policemen, barbed wire, high walls.

*snort*

cjan -> RE: What's In a Nick? (3/25/2008 6:38:16 PM)

Double ditto snort. Yea, stella is one of the sharpest crayons in the box, imo. I wouldn't want to cross, ummm, swords with her.

Where the concept is flawed, I believe, is that someone would have already had to have chosen a nick to read the post in the first place.

You can read it without being logged in, so no, you wouldn't have to choose a name first.  I hung out for a few days reading posts before I bothered to create a nick and profile.

If you do have a title in your nick, i.e GoddessABC, don't expect people to use it, be prepared to be known as ABC as well as GoddessABC.

Wise words.

When I first entered CM, I had the nick "You'reTrespassingOnMyPropertyYouWankerTrespassersWillBeShot".

After somthing like 3 seconds of conversation, posters were addressing me as plain, old Wanker.

I, for one, know exactly where you're coming from.....

MariaIsabel -> RE: What's In a Nick? (3/27/2008 12:26:23 PM)

how can i change my screenname because i want it to be something else and i didnt think of it till after i made my profile

camille65 -> RE: What's In a Nick? (3/27/2008 12:27:26 PM)

You have to make a new profile [8|]

OK, I admit it, I am fed up with some of the nicks I see on Collar Me.  So I thought I would come up with a few pointers on choosing a nick for yourself.

1) Your nick is not the headline for a personal ad, so please don't use things like sub4domme as a nick.
2) Your nick is the first impression you give someone, so don't make it a negative one, like IWannoDoYou.
3) Your nick should say something meaningful about yourself, for instance reflect an interest, something important about your character, or if all else fails something that is actually a name, nickname, or other word you would like to be called.  I don't want to address you with your nick if it's `Fucker for instance.
4) Be careful about using titles, especially when you are new to the scene.  You are not a master the day you arrive in the kink scene.  You may have dominant tendencies and aspire to being a master, but without a lot of learning and experience, you are not there yet.
5) Try to choose a nick you can live with for years, if you are here for the long haul it gives you more credibility to not have your nick change a dozen times along the way.
6) If you do have a title in your nick, i.e GoddessABC, don't expect people to use it, be prepared to be known as ABC as well as GoddessABC.

Hmmm, any other ideas?

Scratch that.  Reverse it.  Just follow my one, true, proper, correct, only way of choosing a nickname.

1)  Name yourself after an excerpt in a Bowie song and see if people get the reference.

You are now a true Dom/me, sub, switch or other.  You have been Bowiefied, and that's all anyone ever really needs out of life.

Actually, I thought the OP gave pretty good advice.  And like good advice everywhere, one is free to follow it or not.  agreed.

My nickname (as opposed to my SN) with the guys in the mailroom is "Our Lady of Bondage," due to a rather unfortunate mishap with a parcel that was delivered to me at work.  oh puhleeeeze tell!!!![sm=biggrin.gif]

It is....Perhaps if you would have attended my CM "nickname" seminar you would be getting some serious cock right abouts now.

We at Domiguy Industries have been supplying the subs of today with the nicknames of tomorrow...Who could forget such classics as..."drownmeinjizz" or "scatsyummy"...

For just three easy payments of $14.99...You could be getting responses without sending a single tit or gash shot.

"How can this be?" you ask...It's all really quite simple...At Domiguy Industries we have been at the forefront of name recognition research...What sounds and words cause a Dom to take pause?...What type of a name would provoke a response beyond the typical..."on your knees you dirty cunt."

At Domiguy Industries the name goes on before the Dom goes in.

So, "willicktwat4U" don't be ignored any longer and sign up today!

pahunkboy -> RE: What's In a Nick? (3/27/2008 12:55:55 PM)

Hunk = man

after a few hundred posts- i thought  pahunk- was too close to "punk"  which  i would not have selected.

-- anyhow- it reminds me of CB handles. anyone can be any name.   what was your CB handle?

MichiganHeadmast -> RE: What's In a Nick? (3/27/2008 1:13:12 PM)

Just for information, "MichiganHeadmaster" is too many characters.  Two too many, to be exact.  [:D]

Bumping your post because I have the same question.  I didn't know it was even possible.

MariaIsabel -> RE: What's In a Nick? (3/27/2008 3:11:12 PM)

its not im going to have to make another one and post on the foruems again to get back to what my status is right now

DesFIP -> RE: What's In a Nick? (3/27/2008 5:16:03 PM)

Maria. just hang out in polls and random stupidity playing word games and you'll rack up a huge number of posts.

MontrealPhoenix -> RE: What's In a Nick? (3/27/2008 6:38:09 PM)

Wow i'm glad i'm not one to judge people by their nickname. I've just met a dom who is perfect for me, and with whom i'm completely compatible. If i thought like you i wouldn't have given him the time of day, his nick is Domforslave....

xxblushesxx -> RE: What's In a Nick? (3/27/2008 7:47:46 PM)

My CB handle was 'Honey'.
very boring.
The funny thing is, when one of my um's was about 2 or 3, she refused to answer to her name she just said 'my name is Honey.' *lol*
