ORIGINAL: saradeanna469 Yes, I had planned all along to make the initial, negative mold out of plaster and then use that one to make a positive mold. I'm having trouble figuring out what to make the positive mold out of so that I can create this plastic or fiberglass shell. If anyone here knows much about it, I would love to hear some ideas about what would be a good medium to use to for this purpose. The complex shape makes it very tricky to do as a traditional mold. i think your best bet would be to build the initial cast out of medical fiberglass casting material, bivalve it to get the bottom out, then apply regular fiberglass over the top of the medical cast to strengthen it and give it a smooth finish. The end result will be a bit thicker than what the artist created here, but without seeing it in person, i just can't figure out how they did it. i mean, look at that well-defined ass cleavage! That is definitely an artist's touch i almost wonder if they used the type of thermoplastic that they make orthopedic braces out of, i'm just not sure how you can fuse the individual pieces together. To form it, i'd probably have them lay with their head and arms hanging off the edge of a table, do the arms and shoulders; then have them sit in a chair and do the legs just past the knees, then get down on the floor to do the torso and upper legs. Use plastic wrap to keep the casting material off of the body, rather than cast padding, so that it will be nice and snug.
