Now there's a second generation with "no choice".
They need to round up those grandparents and beat the hell out of them!

Popeye, normally i agree with you, however....

this woman had a choice. she KNEW she was here illegally.
but then she had not ONE, not TWO, not THREE, not FOUR...but EIGHT kids (from numerous relationships), KNOWING that she might one day be caught and deported. on TOP OF THAT, she was unable to support them, "helped by churches and people around her."

What the heck???

At what point do people look at themselves and make an evaluation as to what they are capable of, and what their life situation is???

i don't feel sorry for her at all. i feel sorry for her kids. but should she be given a free pass? not in my eyes.

Are you sure she knew she was illegally in the US, since she was only 5 when she arrived. Somehow i doubt her father explained things to her.

CalifChick -> RE: those damn illegals (3/27/2008 2:54:37 PM)

The mother is choosing to leave her children behind; she does not have to.  How about yelling at her?

And what's the problem with her going back to her native country?

the problem is, from what I read, that this woman has been in the u.s.
since she was five years old and knows nobody in mexico.
here, she grew up, worked and raised her kids. there she will probably
become a street person since she has nowhere to go when she gets there
to get a leg-up.

You know, being of Irish descent I wouldn't want a million Irish sneaking into this country either. HOLY SHITE!

Can you provide us with proof that your forebears came to this country with all of their paperwork in order?

And since you are so proud of your Irish heritage, you do realise that the Irish were the Mexicans of their time, don't you?

My point is... each generation feels entitled to hate the next wave of immigrants. Considering the basis upon which this country was built (ie., immigration, and not always of the most legal kind), I find the present clamouring a little hard to stomach [8|] .

kittinSol -> RE: those damn illegals (3/27/2008 2:57:47 PM)

I don't yell at her because she is doing what she considers best for her American children: to leave them in the country where they were born, where they will have better opportunities.

she never asked any one for anything. she was helped by folks who admired  how hard she worked to NOT have to ask for anything.  it was done out of love, not in reply to requests for help.  and some (no make that most) times it was a struggle to get her to accept things.

just wanted to make sure that was clear-you may still feel the same way, but now ya know.

It didn't say anywhere that she'd be "prevented" from taking them back to Mexico with her.
As far as I'm concerned they're not U.S. Citizens.
She knew what she was doing the whole time she was doing it.
What's next, we start "feeling sorry" for rapists because ..."they had a lousey childhood?"
Boo hoo hoo!

she will not be allowed to take them....they are citizens of the good old usa, and the usa is "protecting" them.

Are you aware of a new law that hasn't been well-publicized?  There are legal avenues for her to EASILY take her children with her.

Here ya go:

Q: What happens to children when the parents are deported?

Carl Rusnok, a spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said children are rarely left behind, although he has no statistics. "Normally, the parent takes the kids with them," he said. He explained the agency's standard procedure: "If ICE knows that a single parent is being deported, they give the parent the option of having the children deported with them, at ICE's expense.

it does, says they are being taken and placed into foster homes, then up for adoption.

where are your parents from? are you 100% native american? maybe you should go
wherever theyre from? just because you were born here.....
She knew what she was doing the whole time she was doing it.
maybe she didnt, i know someone from Canada that had almost the same issue.

By current standards of citizenship, they are.

Thankfully, popeye's standards don't apply to a lot of people currently on these boards... And they are US citizens.

It's a shame to hear that it makes sense to separate this mother from her children... and for what? To satiate a few self-satisfied citizens' thirst for blood.

I wish people would get a fucking clue instead of talking out of their arses. [8|]

Apparently you missed the part that said she can easily take her kids with her. No, that part is downplayed because people want them to stay here. Seems to me, if separation was such an issue, she'd just take them with her and make them mexican citizens.

kittinSol -> RE: those damn illegals (3/27/2008 3:04:42 PM)

I missed no part, Smithers :-) . Check out an other post of mine above, and you will read this for yourself.

she never asked any one for anything.

Except for:

Sex
Pre-natal care
Medical Expenses for Delivery
Immunizations for her children
Well-child check-ups
Dr or ER visits when she or they were ill
Education for her children
Education for herself
Clean drinking water
Community policing
Community Fire Department
Infrastructure
Enforcement of Housing Codes

The list goes on, but I think that you can see the point.

Kittensol, I have dual U.S./Irish Citizenship.
I had to apply for Irish Citizenship at the Irish Consul on Boylston st. in Boston.
In order to do that I had to have all birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates and U.S. Naturalisation certificates for my grandparents.
They came here legally so it was no problem.
It took me about 2 years and a trip to Ireland to do so.
So yes, I have all my "documents."

And noone hates Immigrants!
They're here legally!
This woman tried to stay under the radar untill she got caught.
She's not an "Immigrant" she's an "Illegal Alien."

SeeksOnlyOne -> RE: those damn illegals (3/27/2008 3:05:18 PM)

i am unaware of it, as are the attorneys helping the foster parents of the 2 oldest girls, and it seems that all of the other lawyers and judges involved are unaware of it also.  the children stay here.......period.  this has been going on since december, and every avenue of reason has been tried.  that is why it is now in desperation mode, writing letters to editors etc.

kittinSol -> RE: those damn illegals (3/27/2008 3:06:04 PM)

Do you think she paid taxes on her income, Aylee?

I think you can tell where I'm going to.

This is why we need impassable borders.
It should be extremely difficult and dangerous to get into the U.S. illegally.
If someone's in the country illegally we should just deport them. If they come back again it should be a 10 year jail sentance just like in Mexico.
Also, the 14th amendment was written in 1868 to give "full citizenship" to freed slaves. It was never intended to give U.S. Citizenship to the offspring of illegal aliens.
Perhaps our congress needs to clarify that in simple language.

Ok so going along with your train of thought, then build a damn inpassable wall between the US and Canada and help keep the illegal american workers out of my country.  Just saying that's all.

kittinSol -> RE: those damn illegals (3/27/2008 3:08:58 PM)

Pop - I have no doubt your papers are in order. I was making the point that close to all of the people on these boards come from elsewhere. We're nearly all immigrants, or descendents of. I doubt very much that all of our ancestors were completely clear with regards to their immigration papers.

It's an incredible shame how readily people will crush the most vulnerable just to make themselves feel better. It's always somebody else's fault, isn't it?

Let's see. . .

Single parent.

EIGHT children.

Working as a hotel maid.

Nope.  I do NOT think that she paid taxes.  In fact, I bet that she recieved Earned Income Credit.

It seems the desperation is NOT to take her children with her, but to let her stay here with them. Big difference. ICE's policy seems pretty clear on the subject. Or is something else going on? Has she been declared an unfit parent?

This is an increasingly ridiculous argument to use in this debate. We (european settlers) came here, we fought with the natives, we made deals with the natives, we fucked over some of them (manhattan for a handful of beads........"how"). Regardless, of how we obtained it, we took ownership of this country. We didn't "sneak in" and try and assimilate into native american society, we brought our own. Right or wrong, that's what happened. We didn't sneak in here and live on the native american govenerment's dime while demanding we had a right to be here because we snuck in. We came in and took it, bought it, stole it, whatever. The "maybe you should go home unless you're native american" argument is ridiculous. This is our country. The settlers may have gotten it in a fucked up manner.....go complain to them. I had nothing to do with it. My ancestors came over in the 30's (I think) and came through Ellis island like the rest, with papers. My great-grand parents were full-blooded german and came here and made lives for their familes, many of whom enlisted in the US military and fought against their parents' former countrymen.
