the thing is, Soft Cell was more interesting than Gary Numan, but Gary's brilliance lies in that he inspired the whole New Wave thingamajig...so I have to say Gary...

I'm in love with Patti Smith and this song is the absolute best. I used to use some of the lines for my signature ("Come on now, try and understand. The way I feel when I'm in your hands" and "Come on now, try and understand. The way I feel under your command") but I also love "Tainted Love." Tough choice but had to go with Patti...............luci

Easily Patti Smith. The Thelma Houston is not a bad soul disco kind of thing. As much as I despise the popular aesthetic contributions of the eighties (I turned 18 in 1980 and I remember the decade well), I have to admit that I like the weirder, more far-out electronic side of Soft Cell and Gary Numan.

I really consider punk to be seventies music, but the whole American hardcore thing (Bad Brains, Minor Threat, etc.) was one of the positives of the eighties, and one of the truest evolutionary paths of punk...
