Level -> 1 Hit Wonders Round 8 of 8 (3/28/2008 8:20:45 PM)

Another big-ass set of music polls. Round 8 of 8. That means, if you don't see a favorite here, look at the other 7 before bitching. If it's not on those, either I missed it, or it sucks.

These initial 8 rounds will last until Wednesday evening at 7:00 central time. Then we'll put each rounds winner into a final poll. Weeeee..... Thanks for voting and commenting, as always, I appreciate it.

And some of these are artists that had more than one hit; but I argue that they only had one smash, you could say. I'm looking more for an interesting set of battles than an ultra-strict definition of 1 hit.

umm  i ummm really do like chris isaak, he used to tour australia in the summer (dec/jan) i'd go.  he didn't tour this time ... he does a great show -

Lumus -> RE: 1 Hit Wonders Round 8 of 8 (3/28/2008 8:28:28 PM)

Dream Academy.

*points to the playlist in his profile re Concrete Blonde*

Because they deserved more exposure than they got.  Fifty songs in my playlist.  Only repeated a band...twice, I think?  Concrete Blonde was one.  Give it a listen, you'll see why...

Level -> RE: 1 Hit Wonders Round 8 of 8 (3/28/2008 8:31:21 PM)

She has an awesome voice, doesn't she?

Lumus -> RE: 1 Hit Wonders Round 8 of 8 (3/28/2008 8:44:57 PM)

Yes.

Find a copy of "Make Me Cry" or "Cold Part of Town".  Good songs.

sapphirepleasure -> RE: 1 Hit Wonders Round 8 of 8 (3/28/2008 8:48:32 PM)

Aw, Level, you forgot Alannah Myles, truly a one hit wonder!

Oy, you're right.

Hmm. Okay, if anyone sees a glaring mistake, like the one sapphire just mentioned, feel free to post on it, and I will do a 9th round maybe on Sunday afternoon.

Concrete Blonde?

You put Concrete Blonde in the list?  And not even for their biggest hit?

"Bloodletting"?
"Ghost of a Texas Ladies Man"?
their cover of "Everybody knows"?

Everybody Knows is the only one of those that can come close (hit wise) to the one I picked, Razor. Of course, that may be subjective, but I'm right. [:D]

Pyrrsefanie -> RE: 1 Hit Wonders Round 8 of 8 (3/28/2008 9:06:02 PM)

I used to bellydance to Kiss Them For Me!

I love my Siouxsie Sioux... <3

Level -> RE: 1 Hit Wonders Round 8 of 8 (3/28/2008 9:07:32 PM)

A great tune (and I'm sure you looked spectacular dancing to it).

I effing LOVE Concrete Blonde. Everybody Knows on the Pump up the Volume soundtrack from when i was a sophmore in highschool. I listened to that song on repeat for probably 2 weeks straight.
This whole list is awesome, Siouxie and the Banshees

beargonewild -> RE: 1 Hit Wonders Round 8 of 8 (3/29/2008 9:49:11 AM)

Thumbs up to Concrete Blonde.

I do have to disagree about Alannah Myles being a one hit wonder,  seems to me she had a few other hits, though not as popular as her #1 hit. Black Velevt, Lover of Mine, and Still Goit This Thing were all top 40....just saying  *grins*

since buffalo springfield is the ONLY one hit wonder in this poll I voted for them.

ominousdominus -> RE: 1 Hit Wonders Round 8 of 8 (3/29/2008 12:48:44 PM)

Dee Lite.....I still want to do nasty things to that chick.......in a good way [:D]

And NO  I don't mean Bootsie Collins.......yeah I know someone woulda said it....

Level -> RE: 1 Hit Wonders Round 8 of 8 (3/30/2008 3:57:26 AM)

Isaak and The Knack tied at 5, Dee Lite one behind.

slaveluci -> RE: 1 Hit Wonders Round 8 of 8 (3/30/2008 9:07:33 AM)

"My Sharona," "Jenny," "For What It's Worth," and "Joey" are all greats!  As I've said on many of the other polls in this series, they all bring back memories of different eras of my life.  "My Sharona" rocked my world in third grade[8D] but I didn't discover Buffalo Springfield until I was a teen and I loved Concrete Blonde when they came out.  Remember "Caroline?"  Finally had to go with The Knack...........luci

No they are not. Mr. Soul was a huge hit and way cooler. For What It's Worth and Broken Arrow both became CSN&Y favourites after Stephen Stills and Neil Young left Buffalo Springfield. Neil Young is playing Mr. Soul as part of the electric set on his current tour.

This is the original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h12dZlaB1ws
This is Neil Young live in Paris 2008: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUF89DBW_Pg

Siouxie had way better tunes. Dee Lite is a fun confection. I can handle Walking in Mephis, but only the KLF version. Chris Isaak is alright. Bow Wow Wow were another Malcolm McClaren invention...
