ORIGINAL: dollparts85 my therapist said that there are programs where a doctor can just talk into a mic and it will record what he says...and that a doctor can just log onto some program and it will automatically send out a bill. Yes and no. There are speech recognition programs, but trust me, I work in this field... there are many, many doctors who don't like them, but would prefer to dictate into a handheld recorder and let someone else type it. As far as the "automatically send out a bill"... nope, there is no software right now that will do that. Someone has to enter the patient demographics, enter the insurance information (which is often NOT what is on the insurance card, necessitating a phone call to the insurance plan), send the claims either on paper or electronically, followup on unpaid claims, make phone calls to appeal denials, write second level appeals on paper to try to get a denial overturned, send copies of records to support claims on request, post the insurance payments and make calls if they don't pay the correct amount, post the patient payments and deal with correspondence from patients, etc., etc., etc. Even if a doctor is using a program where he enters the charge information into the computer from the treatment room, a person still has to handle it from there. There aren't any "automatic" bills being sent out. Cali
