We keep hearing "Go towards and embrace the light"

But what if it's this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUxDF_RGiRI&feature=related

As the old saying goes, you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. But on somedays, I'm sure some of us wish for the train.

Gwynvyd -> RE: What is The Light? (3/29/2008 10:41:44 PM)

Some days we all sit in the darkness alone. Some days we feel that hand on our shoulder. If we look through our own fog... and our own pain we can always see a way out of it. I am sure the pessimists in us will say the light is an oncomming train. Just there to roll over us. I have those days myself. Hope some times is so fragile... and some times comes with a great cost. But it is always a worthy cause. It is what keeps us striving.

I have had great surges of hope.. and I have seen my way out of that proverbial tunnel. I am back in it now. I do not know which way my happiness or even the light it's self lays. But I do know if I allow myself a moment of stillness and quiet I will find it again.

It is in a flailing around that we hurt ourself and dammage others the most.

There have even been the times that the light has come from within and I had to do nothing for it to simply be. I miss those days. When I was so at peace, so happy and so in love. In love with everything. I hope to find that again.. and I wish we all could find and keep that in our lifetimes.

I wish you luck in finding your light.

Gwyn

Fangs. I  dropped  in at grams. She said "I  will soon be dead.  I  want to die too"

dark  is  doom, no hope

light is life -hope, dreams.

every life will have dark hours.   no one can escape that.

did you know a cannon ball weighs 12 lbs?

Gyn, your post touched me and even gave me goosebumps. I agree with everything you said. Flailing about is futile and can cause hurt to ourselves and others. Often, the best thing to do is to be still and open. Open to the pain and darkness, feel it fully and examine it closely, as you would a diamond. It often dissipates on close examination and all that's left is the Light, which is always there, whether we are aware of it or not.

Gwyn,
This is beautiful.

If photons go the speed of light, how fast do "darkons" travel?   Do they travel in the opposite direction?

lets see...what is the light....the light is many things...

its something hanging from the ceiling which has a switch that turns on or off.

its when you realize you are in love.

its when you realize your purpose in life.

its when i open a fresh chocolate bar and begin to taste the yumminess.

it used to be when i bit into a mcd's cheeseburger...till i found out what it does to your body!hmmm...are those mcribs any good??? any bones in them??

i dont have a clue what it refers to when death is involved...even though i was once clinically dead on operating table when i was 4 years old during my first major heart surgery(quite a common thing to happen in those days).  would it be possible to remember what happened at that moment??? when so young? or some sort of hypnosis to bring the memory?

It's that shinny thing at the end of a tunnel.

Emperor1956 -> RE: What is The Light? (4/4/2008 9:41:49 PM)

Actually you are all wrong.  The light at the end of the tunnel is a baby, apparently.

The sense of orientation is lost when the superior parietal lobe shuts down. The 'self' no longer feels anchored to the body, because the sense of self being in the body is lost, and one often seems to be rising to 'heaven.' We now know that the vision of the tunnel is produced by the visual cortex being disconnected from sensory input, and beginning to shut down. Same with the light at the end of the tunnel, which is an artifact of the brain's visual cortex 'looking' for sensory input it cannot 'see.' The visions of a beautiful summer garden or lovely mountain landscapes are the result of the memory centers acting on the centers of the brain that organize visual input into things we recognize, which is operating in the near-total absense of sensory input. All of these brain activities together produce the familiar being of light at the end of a tunnel, and the entrance into the beautiful summer garden.

FullCircle -> RE: What is The Light? (4/5/2008 4:26:41 AM)

There is light at both ends of the tunnel although people loose sight of it.

Very touching. And some of us can step back and find that place and the comfort there at will. I know I can.

Intersting take cjan, and I would not argue. One thing I know is that each person experiences it in a different way. So who am I to invalidate your take on it. Besides, it isn't far off from my personal experience.

I've actually been there, down that tunnel. For me there was no "light". And you know what? That's just fine. In the darkness that enveloped me there was love, unconditional everlasting love. Darkness is not a bad thing, let the senses go, learn to control the fear of what seems dark and empty, and you'll be surprized at what you may find.
