Aileen, I recently put in all new windows and resided my 100+ year old home with inch-thick sheets of panel/board insulation under the T1-11 ‘cedar siding’. I live in Colorado at just over 7000’…and while many people seem to be paying upwards of $800/month for heating a similar sized home, I never spent over $300. I would look into where your heat is going, close the doors to rooms you don’t use and…wear socks & long sleeves, even indoors. I’m quite comfy, actually. If I need to heat up a particular room, I turn on a space-heater for a bit. I also turn down the heat when I leave for any length of time and use ceiling fans as thompsonx mentioned. When I lived in my cabin, off grid and at 9000'...I used mostly wood heat and a very old iron stove; but I never used half as many cords of wood as you suggest! LOL ...perhaps you should look into upping your metabolism. Sometimes I drink a 'tea' of hot water, a bit of honey or maple syrup, a lemon quarter (squeezed) and dash of cayenne pepper; it warms ya! MsB
