Dear old Dad, when he drank he would use the phrase "Such as it is, so shall it be". I don't care if he was drunk, I am over here asking him if he wants a piece of pizza or something and his reply would be "Such as it is, so shall it be". I wanted to KILL him. When I got bigger I broke him of that habit. "Dammit stop saying that !". And he would do it again ! Grrrrrrr ! Eventually he stopped though, so I'm feeling much better now.

Another one that burns my britches is prefacing a sentence with "Why don't you just". Now let me clarify this, I don't mind it in say "Why don't you just leave ?", something like that, I mean in front of a sentence containing a method of doing something that saves alot of time, but is not done properly.

An example "Why don't you just put the roof on [the garage] ?". Because the back wall is leaning about five inches to the right ! Then "That doesn't matter". Geez. Same guy, referring to slipping new drywall behind an existing windowsill, "Why don't you just cut the ends off ?". I felt like smacking him. You have any idea how shitty it looks when you do that ? Not to mention that said windowsill had been stripped of paint and was refinished in natural wood again.

I was cutting trim to go around an old, non-standard staircase. I draw a line and take some measurements, get out the calculator, and literally called my Father to find the corresponding angle to the (sine/cosine) figure I have generated. Same guy, "Why don't you just lay it in place and make a vertical line ?". Well bozo, then how do I cut the other end ? Duh. Well I guess you have to understsand something about cutting molding, you cut the longest pieces first. He should've known that.

And my personal all time unfavorite "Talk to the hand". Anybody that says that to me is lucky that I am not carrying a gun.

And when someone says "Let me be honest with you" means to me that they have been bullshitting me all along. What else would it mean ?

So far, I can honestly say, I'm not guilty of any of the hated phrases. Perhaps when more are added I might be a culprit. Until then, I'm just giggling and nodding my head...yep, hate that one, and that one, and yep, that one too

I believe I've harped on this before, but if I say, "I'm sorry," out of sympathy, I don't want to hear, "Not your fault." It really tempts me to say, "Oh, okay then. Since it's not my fault, I'm glad those horrible things happened to you." It makes for an awkward, stilted conversation and gives me a headache.
