NG, some even have the names of the local bar on them. i think most people are rightly proud of where they come from. It gives a sense of belonging.

If you had said supporters of the bigger clubs don't tend to follow England, I'd agree with you. Man United lads couldn't give a flying one about England, primarily because they play in Europe every year so save their money for following United 'round Europe. Yeah? You'll see plenty of Chelsea and Man Utd following England at the World Cup or the Euro - if they manage to qualify. And some of the snottier fans down here sneer at the whole practice of carrying flags. It seen as being about as cool as waving a wooden rattle.

To be fair though, there aren't that many of us and we'd fought so many wars, and wiped the floor with all-comers, we were no longer interested - nothing left to prove - didn't count on Hitler and associates getting ideas above their station, though. The first - the Americans only turned up when everyone else had fought themselves to a standstill. It is the Star Spangled banner that is sung to a pre-existing song: The Anacreontic Song, which was the official song of a group of amateur British musicians...

Thanks for the info, though. I think I once heard/read that the "Star-Spangled Banner" was set to a drinking song. Any idea if that's true?
