I met him at a NRA rally in 2000.  He was a very gracious, polite man.  I didn't agree with him on 100% of things, but I think he was worthy of respect.  He was a great American, a champion of the 2nd Amendment, and someone that earned the respect he got.  RIP.

Truth be told Heston wasn't about GUNS he was about the right and need to keep them. Heston wasn't a Huge GUN Fanatic he was a rights fanatic and I respect him very much.

All In all he was a good man and should be respected and remembered

C'mon Owner.....The guy campaigned for JFK.  He joined a picket line in Oklahoma to protest segregation at the premiere of his own movie.  He was opposed to the Vietnam War, and he marched with Dr. King in Washington.  He was a good man, despite what you think about his change to conservative views in his older years.

all true...he was a big advocate for civil rights... and the gun thing was just a hiccup on an overall great activist life.

Just teasing.

I totally enjoyed his acting and good works.

I agree,RIP.

Ok,no Soylent Green jokes about him.

Tantriqu -> RE: Charlton Heston dead at 84 (4/5/2008 10:35:09 PM)

Good stage actor, beautiful voice, gorgeous body, handsome face [those lips!], 6'3":  they don't make actors like that any more... pity about the NRA crap.  I remember that he wrote a letter protesting about Saturday Night Live then came on the show, er, live, to apologise as well as host:  classy.
Favourites would include 'The War Lord', 'Agony and the Ecstacy', 'El Cid', and the first halves of 'planet of the apes', 'ben hur' and 10 commandments.

I use one of his lines from Soylent Green to subs:  'Get on the bed'.

Hey, Soylent Green was a great movie.

I don't think it was a hiccup.  The right to defend yourself is the ultimate civil right.  But I don't want to turn this into a 2nd amendment thread.....

Hey, Soylent Green was a great movie.
let's not say the acting was great...it's one of those movies you love...but you're not exactly praising it's many attributes as a film.

Oh I agree.  Dystopian science fiction is always a tricky genre.  It doesn't always translate well on screen, especially in the 70's.  A lot of the special effects nerds like to point out the campiness of the sets and the props, but they miss the plot entirely because of it.
