Not sure if this is going to help, but there is a nearly infinite number of combinations of dominant-styles and personalities, as there is an infinite number of submissive styles and personalities.  Personally, I am a sensually-Sadistic-toy-oriented-polyamorous-Leather-loving-Daddy-Dom-Master to my pet and all around Evil Rat Fuck.. with Kung-Fu grip.

There is as many different types as there are Dominant.

Instead of trying to group this one into that group and that one into this group ... why not try treating each one as an individual person who have both positive and negative qualities. 

It is not important to consider what type of Dominant you want.... but more importantly consider what qualities of a person you want/need and don't want/need.   


I agree with KoM here. However I suppose you could split Dominants into three groups.
  1. Service Only
  2. Service and BDSM
  3. BDSM Only
Doesn't help a whole lot but every one I know on and off line fits into one of those groups. Of course there are sub-cultures of the Kink sub-culture which include Gorean Lifestyles and Victorian Lifestyles and I immagine a few more all which are very specific what they do.

That has already happened. Like up my ass for days ... e-mail, yahoo ... and then .. thats it ... I really don't have the patience to be victim of the "Drive-by Doms"  either you have time for me ... or you don't just be upfront about it... I am.

Hello RedAnhedonia. Now this is just an opinion on the subject.

Strictly speaking about dominants, if one could be only one thing and not a mix of many (I find many lump in together style and ''substance'' in their ''labeling''):

-Type of dominance: Leading (as in leadership), caring (as in nurturing), coercive-restrictive.
-Styles of dominance: Traditional (reversed-traditional), boss-employee, daddy-mommy, owner etc.
-Field of dominance: Sexual, non sexual.

I compare it to dancers. The dance is power exchange. Dancers dance in many styles and at different formal and informal levels. They may do this recreationally or at a more or less full time endeavor. For me, all this discussion about the difference between a sub and a slave (dom master) is futile because the premise is flawed with a sophism. A slave is a sub, daddie's little girl is a sub, a traditional 1950s stereotype wife is a sub. It is like asking what is the difference between a Salsa dancer and a ''regular'' dancer. To me it makes no sense (I find it strange that few ask the difference between ChaCha and Ballet!).

Another analogy (used in the OS computer world) is Ice Cream. At it's basic level Ice Cream is the power exchange. Vanilla is what we use for the non power exchange defined people. (I say non defined because there is dominance and submission in all relationships, but they may be of a punctual nature and very variable on a day to day basis.)  The other flavors  are  just different styles. It is all Ice cream. It gets very interesting when ''you'' come up with ''your'' own flavor by mixing flavors. If you add candy,fruit and nuts? That's paradise! RL.

It will also be helpful to understand that one dom does not = one dom type.  A single person can embody many orientations and many styles.
