But what happens if you are one of those persons who cannot control it when you get a fit of the giggles, as was the case with this interview:

What methods do you use to control those fits of giggles?

Oh dear that's a bit awkward.[8|]

(Edit: I change the emote icon to control the laughter)

And a career breaker, I should imagine! I went for a job interview quite some time ago, I was being interviewed by a panel of three persons for a banking position. The first two introduced themselves to me without a problem, the third said, "My name is xxxxxx Pratt, two T's, Pratt. Remember that. Pratt!" and I started laughing, did try to stop but soon tears were rolling down my cheeks and I had to get up and leave. Needless to say, I didn't get the job!

i couldn't watch the whole thing...i bet that interviewer doesnt' have his job anymore...wow.

as a kid i always used to get the giggles during one of the hour long prayers my dad would say, it was inevitable and i still laugh over it although i'm the only one who does.

You could have said it was a nervous laugh or you were using the ‘picture them naked’ interview technique.

I didnt watch the link, but i do giggle innapropriately. Ooo it sucks. All i can do is focus on the 'serious' tone of the moment and get myself together. Sometimes it take a couple of tries. Some hard whacks on my bare bottom works well too. xox
Weddings, funurals, and public moments.. if able, i slip out of the room. Apparently its only funny if everyones laughing.

Like The Man said, very awkward, although I can understand why the interviewer got the giggles over it. That doesn't make it right, and I find I've had the giggles at the most inopportune moments. A classic was when I was at my gran's funeral. She left instructions that a Salvation Army representative should sing her favourite hymn - Morning Has Broken. We're all sitting there in the chapel waiting, the Sally Army rep. turns up - a huge guy, well over 6 ft tall, in full uniform and when he turned around to face everyone he was wearing little round glasses and looked just like Benny Hill. When he started singing his voice was high pitched and squeaky, it just set me off. I desperately tried to control myself, but the harder I tried the worse I got until I had to leave. The worst thing about it is that my family all have the same sense of humour, so when I started laughing, it set them off too and the vicar/sally army guy, along with all the friends, etc... were looking at us as if we had just been released from the local nut house!

I could have done, but then, that would have made it three persons with a nervous laugh [;)]

That for me isn't such a bad situation because who said a funeral should be a sombre occasion? I've been to a few and usually you just sit there, stand up sing a few words and leave just after the vicar talks about how great someone they've never met was. I find them a bit of a farce but at least you were able to see the bright side of life at one.

domahpet -> RE: Laughter Makes The World Go Round (4/6/2008 9:36:08 AM)

i cant believe that no one else in that audience got a giggle!
that was bad, that poor guy! i would have been triggered from the
interviewer and started myself!

MissMorrigan -> RE: Laughter Makes The World Go Round (4/6/2008 9:42:31 AM)

There was a guy in blue sitting with his face in his hands and I reckon he was secretly laughing. What got me was the expressions on the faces of the people being interviewed, I know I wouldn't have fared any better than the interviewer.

camille65 -> RE: Laughter Makes The World Go Round (4/6/2008 9:42:45 AM)

Oooh that was awful. I don't think it would have been so bad if the woman next to the interviewee wasn't sobbing.Jeez.I've gotten the giggles over the wrong things but never on camera!
