If it can be made, it can be forged.

Which is why I wont be supporting any electronic ID card system here.

that means hotel locks could be hacked.

maybe automatic car starters?? 

maybe phone calls onto someone elses cell phone

The point is?

Hacked or not, I used to know a guy who knew people.  Who would take the remote control garage door opener down streets.  Keep clicking it until it opened up a garage door and clean the people out while they were at work or wherever.
I have no idea how many actual codes there are on these things.  Yet, if there is a will there will be a way no matter what it is.

We have Onstar on one of our cars.  Nice service, if you lock yourself out of your car.  You can call them and they will unlock the car for you.  Of course you have to have a pin code to prove you are who you are.  Roger you have my pin code...think about it.  So, no device needed other than the ability to call the number and say I'm locked out.
Where there is a will there is a way.
