A little long, but a good French/German documentary on the makers of Round Up. I believe everyone should be aware of what is happening to our food, for it not only affects us and our future health, but every generation that is to come.

Yes, it is frightening. In a way, Monsanto makes Wal-mart look like a moral citizen.

i agree wholeheartedly. i don't have a chance to watch the documentary now, but i wanted to mention a book - "stolen harvest: the hijacking of the global food supply" by vandana shiva. she's very much a crazy leftist environmental activist, so her stuff is definitely spun from that direction, but she does work with farmers in india and actually does on the ground stuff related to what she preaches. anyway, monsanto is one of the main features in her book and she presents a lot of scary info about them. if even 10% of what she says is possibly accurate, that's still enough to give me nightmares.

Monsanto is evil.  What they are doing to the world's non GM seed stock should have people screaming but most non-farmers are blissfully unaware of what is going on.

Here's a little tidbit about Monsanto....

When Nutrasweet (made by Monsanto) was being reviewed by the FDA, a scientist had strong evidence from testing rats that were fed Aspartame regularly (what Nutrasweet really is) showing a marked increase in brain tumors.  The then head of the FDA squashed the study as inconclusive and put Aspartame on the fast track for approval.  A few weeks after it was approved, said head of FDA left and took a high level position with Monsanto.

This story was on 60 Minutes back in 1996.

Incredible!

Monsanto hadn't yet acquired G. D. Searle when those shenanigans started but otherwise, that's not too far from what happened.

Searle's CEO at the time was Nixon's former Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld.  In a January 1981 Searle sales meeting, he said that he would "call in his chips" and have aspartame approved by the end of the year.  The day after Reagan took office, he fired the current FDA commissioner, Jere Goyan, and replaced him with Art Hayes.  Hayes then twisted the system and in July of that year, aspartame was approved as a dry food additive.  It wasn't until November of 1983 that it's use in soft drinks was approved.  That was Hayes' last decision as commissioner of the FDA.

Amid controversy regarding the reciept of corporate gifts, Hayes left the FDA shortly thereafter to take a 10 year/$1000 a day contract with Searle's public relations firm as their senior medical advisor.

Monsanto's history is rife with such stories of governmental decisionmakers who either started working for Monsanto or it's subsidiaries or ended up working for them.

No, it's not all that incredible.  Toxic hepatitis can be caused by exposure to many different substances.  PCBs are just one of them.

I keep hoping in vain that he's going to stuff that football up her ass one day. Maybe I should look into learning animation?

The Rodale Institute and Organic gardening have been keeping track of Monsanto's crimes for years.

People really need to start wrapping their heads around the notion that some companies are such bad corporate-citizens that they really just cannot be allowed to continue doing business in the U.S. any longer.

Monsanto has to be the top of the list, or at least tied for first place among the worst corporations in the U.S.

Those that can't take the time to watch the film should at least read the article linked above. Similar material is covered in both instances and it really lays out the future of politics and litigation in this country. We need to completely reform copyright and patent law in order hamstring idiot corporations like Monsanto. Should we fail to do so we are in for a world of hurt thanks to these motherfuckers.

I've always believed that it was wrong to allow corporations to exist as deathless fictitious persons. I say it's past time we laid Monsanto to rest.

Monsanto is obviously the third horseman of the Apocalypse: Famine.

And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

It's really beyond all belief that we have allowed a company the means of patenting DNA in order to collect royalties. Anyone with even a rudimentary understanding of how plant life works knows that we are headed for disaster. As plant life cross breeds thanks to wind and insects, this Frankenstein DNA has already contaminated purer crops around the globe.

Do people forget that Frankenstein created a monster beyond his control?

The only problem with this is that apartame was discovered in the 1965 and was only approved after 1980. If 15+ years amounts to "fast track approval," I'd hate to see how long the "slow track" would take.

Since its approval, there's been scant evidence of the diet drink folks dying from brain tumors.

Not brain tumors, perhaps, but I know a fuck of a lot of people who get blinding migraines from that crap. Not surprising, considering consuming aspartame is like swallowing a chemistry experiment. Bleurgh!
