Just wondering if anyone has bought any of Victor Tella's stuff?  I am looking to get a matched set of 4 foot signal whips in the near future.  No one wants to spend 500-1000 dollars to get cheap pieces of crap.

We have not had the joy of owning a Victor Tella whip but we have drooled over them quiet a few times. Last year we vended beside him at Southeast Leatherfest and had the opportunity to talk with him at length and crack his signals and snakes. WOW.....gorgeous work.

snob > his stuff is great quality , no where near junk , i would suggest a replaceable cracker  version VS a fixed cracker .I have not seen his whole line but from what i saw that would be a great choice for a snake whip .

Victor's whips are incredible. I have had the opportunity to toss a wide variety of whips at our peer whip workshop and Victor's seem to be the favorite across the board. He even went so far as to donate a handful of whips for us to use as loaners for people who are curious but don't yet have their own whips.

His donation aside and committment to the community aside, he has a super quick turnaround especially for custom whips compared to others, great prices, and quality to drool over. They crack themselves, throw reliably everytime even in inexperienced hands and just rock overall... plus he makes whips for kinkster fucks like us and not for cowboys working on cattle.

Victor is one of the best whip makers in the country. I own four of his whips and whether its one of his 4 foot nylons or a pair of matched bullwhips you are gonig to get top noth quality from him. Plus he is very kink friendly and if you have any special requirements he can easily accommodate you.

after sitting there and watching him braid a whip at an event and talking to him about what he was doing, i didn't have any trouble dropping $225 on a 4ft snake whip that was "off the shelf"....he is also an excellent whip handler...i don't think he would put anything out there that is not something he would use himself, so you are getting excellent quallity no matter what you buy...

now i just have to find someone to break in my whip, and use it on me...dammit...its a one person whip (for me anyway) and i bought it to be used on me, and now i have no one to use it on me i suppose i could take 5 minutes and learn how to not hit myself in the face with the back swing (if a couple of certain someones hear about this, they will find out i was not paying any attention in their class, i was just in there to make my panties wet)

I own a set of matching signal whips, a bull whip, and a braided leather wrapped cane from Victor.  They are all wonderful, much better than the Happy Tails signal whip I first bought.  I saw him at Kink in the Caribbean, and he is a wonderful person.  I would not hesitate to buy another whip from him.

Joe uses excellent materials, and his work is very tight. There is incredible attention paid to the details, and his whips almost seem to have a life of thier own. No dead spots in the weave, and they throw smartly and evenly in all directions.

A lot of people don't understand that a single tail or a snake whip is not just a bit of woven leather. The best one becomes and extension of your body-and take very little effort to control-just a flick of the wrist.

There is an art to using them-but a poorly crafted whip is just miserable to try to make do what you want. It's better to spend the money.

Its not one or the other, MzHard.   I own two Joe Wheelers and one Victor Tella -- both men make beautiful whips.  I think of Joe as an Aston-Martin, and Vic as a Lamborghini -- both beautiful, hand-crafted and fast, but the Wheeler is classic, smooth as silk, and quietly beautiful...The Tella is flashy, draws a crowd and boldly sexy.  Different strokes for different (lucky) folks.

That said, is Joe braiding?  Last I heard he was retired.

As I understand it, if you want a wheeler, you have to sit with him while he braids it.  I know someone who ordered a pair 2 years ago and hasnt had them made yet.

Wheeler is notorious for long lead times. No denying that he makes a fantastic whip but if you practiced with one of Victor's whips for the two years it takes to get a Wheeler you'd be much better off.

As an aside there are many many great whipmakers all over the world. Australia and New Zealand are home to some of the best. Check out the work of Chris Barr, Peter Jack, Mike Murphy, Fiona Wilkes, Sharron Taylor, Si Davey, Bernie Wojcicki, Janine Fraiser. I can vouch for the quality of all of these since I have at least one whip from all of them.....My name is Domino and I'm a whip addict.

You can also find links to many other Whipmakers worldwide here...

The best way to find out if a particular makers whip suits your style is to try one out. In the end the best whip is the one that suits your style.

"Hello Domino, I'm Emperor...and I'm a whip addict, too".

I actually DID sit with Joe when he finished my 4' single tail.  The Signal whip I bought from him, already done.  I did have some doubts "Is this really Joe's work?" but I have to say it flows so smooth, and cracks so easily....its Da real ting, mon!

What I'd heard is that when Joe lost his wife, he stopped braiding.  I hope its not true...I thought he was a fine craftsman and I'd seen his work from the days with David Morgan.

Jonn Ireland showed up at kinkfest this year with a set of matched  joe wheeler singletails that hadnt been broken in yet.  So that tells me he is still braiding, it might just be for friends, but hes braiding.

I've thrown a Wheeler as well and I do like his stuff but unfortunately I will not recommend him to anyone at the moment. My phone calls and e-mails for orders have gone unanswered and I also know a person or two waiting for their whips...

I suspect they require a lot of breaking in. I tried  couple of new ones and found them very stiff. Impossible to crack. Maybe they improve with feeding and working but first impression was not a patch on others I have seen.
