This thread has good advice (even though some conflicts).
Each person has to found out as much as they can.
Online for reading on various scenes and practices.
Munches to meet people and practice (perhaps).
Ditto on the immediate 'owning'........NEVER.....take the TIME to get to know someone and find out if they are trustworthy because the mind is the biggest playground for D/s.

I am so fond of absurd fear mongering that I'd like to add a few more warnings to this one:

Don't ride in a car because you could get killed in an accident
Don't eat because you could get ptomaine poisoning
Dont go outside because you might get struck by lightning
Don't be born because you'll surely die anyway

I have been a sub for over a year and serve a Master. I can read those sites with an educated head and there is nothing wrong with them.

This is hilarious on a few levels. First, just how do you know that you didn't meet a dom that took advantage of you and shaped you the way he wants you? Secondly, if you're saying that castlesrealm isn't overly romanticized then you must have an overly romanicized outlook to start with; therefore when you say there is nothing wrong with those sites it means there IS something wrong with all of them.

Overall, the arguments you make to support your positions are so weak that they call into question both your abilities as a dispenser of advice and as a consumer of information. Folks are having an easy time of punching holes in what you say but it doesn't appear like you're interested in any of it, so the quality of your advice isn't likely to improve.

Amazing, one word was said and it has developed into 2 pages of name calling and bitching about one another.

I'm sure the brand new person loves the site of this board at this moment.

Shall we try again?

What is it you were trying to ask about?

Why does that word: newbie, evoke such strong reactions, both from subs (bottoms): emerald, as from doms?
I am starting to think that the word 'newbie' has become a new 'arousal' word :-)

Though I still feel like my advice was good advice I would like to make a public apology for taking it so far. It was immature and uncalled for. I am sorry to all those that read it and those that will read it.

It is a word to me just like any other. To me the term newbie means brand new, inexperienced and ignorant.

(There is a big difference between ignorant and stupid people....before anyone jumps on any bandwagon here)

Generally newbies have millions of questions all spurned out of chatrooms. Is it right for a master to do this and that.
Problem with newbies is the fact they hang out in chatrooms. You don't learn a lot in the average chat.

I wonder if the person who asked the question has ran, or is still around? Hope she will give us a second chance.
Although there is no profile...soooo, what does that mean?

But, what if the fantasy of the whole thing has been forever, like 30 years old, since I was like 11. What then? Suddenly at middle age, I decide to check into my private fantasies? Which way then?

Running a BDSM group, I have to let you know it seem's most are middle aged before they find the lifestyle.
With the internet the age keeps getting younger and younger...but the majority is 40+.
