Level -> "My environmentalism is better than yours"? (4/8/2008 4:31:51 AM)

quote:

CBS) Mark Vargas was trying to his part for the planet when he installed 128 solar panels on his roof - at a cost of $70,000.

"Solar power is very important, not only to me, but to the environment," Vargas said.

Unfortunately for him, nature got in his way, CBS News correspondent Ben Tracy reports.

"The trees are beautiful," said Vargas' neighbor, Richard Treanor. "Those solar panels are not."

Treanor lives across the fence. He's all for the environment - and even drives a hybrid car. Ten years ago he planted several redwoods to provide a little privacy.

Now they have his neighbor seeing red.

I guess if you don't want to see your neighboor's solar panels or anything else he/she might do to their house or yard, make sure the house you are buying has a yard with at least 2 acres of wooded land to each side. :)

But in all seriousness, this environmentalism could be worse- one of the guys could have put up a three storey windmill to generate his electricity. Nothing like stepping out into the backyard in the morning with your coffee and being splattered on the face with the feathers and bits of birds flying from your redwoods into the neighboor's windmill.

i have a problem with the stupid law that the tree owner fell afoul of. Its not like the trees just sprang up overnight. So the one with the solar panels didn't plan very well(how do you not plan when installing 70,000 worth of equipment) and made his poor planing his neighbors fault.
i am all for doing things that are good for the environment, but can we start doing a little planning here folks? Really, just because what you do is better for the environment doesn't absolve you if you make things worse by the consequences of your attempt. Proper planning prevents piss poor performance.

Neighbor good will -value can be immense.

If I put up a 6ft wood privacy fence or too tall foilage the one neighbor would have no sunlight.  So- Ill give him a chance to put up the fence he claims he will put up.

I could get ya know real mad when his leaves blow onto my yard.  but my leaves blow onto someone elses yard.

Laughing, all my leaves blow down the hill and towards the river.......two miles away. I love rural living! (except when the road is covered in ice and blowing snow, -20 degrees before wind chill and I have to drive 50 miles to work)

I know a guy that had a heart attack due to the next door neighbor planting trees. he was worried about the leaves.   the heart attack was fatal.

who is to blame?   --well- I can see I better lighten up about the world around me. :-)

Lesson learned?  Do your research beforehand and abide by the law?

pahunkboy -> RE: "My environmentalism is better than yours"? (4/8/2008 2:02:04 PM)

there was nothing illegal about it.

The trees were against the law.  Not the solar.
