Cats make terrible paper weights.

I'd rather people be point blank Honest, then Wishy-Washy to be polite.
I prefer people being themselves in the moment...Get some thicker skin
people. The Boards would get pretty boring quite quickly, if there wasn't a mix of differing perspectives and colorful moods

I can see someone thats never been on moderation.

Biting posts are ok aslong as they are biting the comments not the poster.

quietkitten -> RE: Posting with your claws out??? (10/7/2005 6:37:07 PM)

I haven't been here for ages but I noticed a lot of snarky comments myself in the boards I have been reading. Hopefully it's just a phase.

BalletBob -> RE: Posting with your claws out??? (10/7/2005 6:58:33 PM)

Hey Bob.....you know that's a new excuse. It use to be, "MY DOG ATE MY HOMEWORK", so now its. "MY CAT SHREDDED MY HOME WORK". My how times have changed.

Now for the Bitterness...well sometimes we see people being...well you know..and we have to voice out opinions. I was a GOOD BOY though, and when I seen about the Girl who wanted to "NAIL" her body parts to a board....I took a deep breath, and deleted everything I typed...except for "Never Mind". It is posts like that, that get our gander up, and we are only human...well except for Bob's cat (Not this Bob. Mine Fluffy is a Little Angel, and would never ruin Daddy's papers..she has Mommy's legs instead).

We have to voice our opinions, and get things off our chests. The Other Bob....BalletBob

erin

for me I can read many posts by a person til there is that one that pushes me over the edge. Then I tend to give a more biting reply and after that I ignore the person.

I don't recall stating I support "Biting Posts" I don't have any respect for purely meanspirited post's.
But to always be putting Nicey Mush and Polictical Correctness above sharing your thought's or stating how you see it, makes for phony interactions, a non-learning atmosphere and a dead Forum eventually...JMO[;)].

I think you're on the money here. I loathe polictical corectness and love to agrue a point I am passionate about and beleive in. However, once you indentify someone who likes to argue just for the sake of arguing; you need to be able to just walk away and smile. Anything more than that, and you break up the continuity of the discussion/thread

I have to also agree with this statement. However, the types of posts you are referring to here are not at all what my commentary post was on. I was indeed referring to the posts that seem to be full of flip and snide comments....or outright insults (meanspirited as you referred to them). And on a side note, in your earlier post you said we should get tougher skin. I can assure you that my skin is plenty thick. I did not make the post because I was bothered by the current trend, just more of a curiousity as to it's cause and effect. Hence the line....things that make you go hmmmm........

I would also add this. While I do agree that I too prefer people to convey their thoughts in an honest and forthright manner, I also see many instances where people throw in alot of sarcasm and insult that not only is not necessary but, in my opinion, takes away from anything of value that person might be saying. Now I am not professing to be above such behavior myself. I too am human and have let frustration get the best of me and come out snapping. I will even go so far as to say that there are times when a bit of a bite is appropriate and well deserved. But I do believe that for the most part we can get our opinions heard without lowering ourselves to those levels.

I hope some people will read this and comphrend what it means.....

Aileen68 -> RE: Posting with your claws out??? (10/8/2005 5:15:07 AM)

I think that people tend to like drama...things become much more riveting when there's some kind of controversy going on within a post. It definitely keeps the post alive much longer than if people just gave simple answers. You just need the ability to wade through all the crap sometimes to get to the substance. I'll be the first to admit, though, that I find that I'm guilty of following those posts too... some are kind of like soap operas. You just have to watch and read to see how they play out.

BOUNTYHUNTER -> RE: Posting with your claws out??? (10/8/2005 6:49:54 AM)

While I tend to keep my claws in check there are times when someone just needs a good slap of common sense..of course this is just an ol MASTERS view of things..BOUNTYHUNTER

mystictryst -> RE: Posting with your claws out??? (10/8/2005 7:11:53 AM)

I used to moderate a pagan site and we went through the same thing, it got especially bad over Christmas break and summer break...

I can't speak for here, as I'm new, but in my previous experience, I found that often people got edgey because the posts on these boards can become extremely repetitive.

"I'm new, tell me everything" or "I'm a badass (enter branch of paganism)" were two I used to see all the time.

It gets very old and very tiring and yes, people get frustrated. I'm not usually blunt by nature, so I always tried (and still do, I suppose) to be objective, kind, and smooshy (too nice instead of direct). Sometimes I admire people with moxy, sometimes I think they are mean.

I used to tell the posters "be nice" and to watch the snide remarks. Everyone is learning and some of us are more motivated (IE know how to search posts/have patience enough to search posts/websites/books/etc) than others and although it is frustrating, being more experienced often inducts us into roles we may not want but have responsibility for anyway...

Like previously stated, I'm sure it will peeter itself out. Just keep smiling and walk onto the next post... :)

And every once in awhile........a small kernel of wisdom rolls off the end of someone's fingertips and winds up right in front of my eyes.....thank you. I wish more people understood that responsibility and the weight it carries.

Three cheers and a but...
Searching through old posts doesn't always get you the best answers to your question. Someone new to the board may have an insight you would never learn of in an old thread. And its possible that you might answer differently from say last year due to new experiences. Questions may get repetitive but they are the main purpose of these boards. Its easy enough to skip them if you've heard it all before.

Vancouver_cinful -> RE: Posting with your claws out??? (10/10/2005 12:52:27 PM)

My parents are textbook models for teaching by example. I always try to remind myself that when I act/speak in a disrespectful way, I am most likely to teach disrespect, and my other message will likely be lost; causing more harm than good.

Saying that, I'm human, and it's hard not to want to attack ignorance and narrowmindedness. ::sigh::
