In reading through some of the posts on the boards lately I have noticed a few more posts than usual that have a bit of a "bite". Has there been some kind of planetary shift? Global PMS? Message board related last nerve irritation? Things that make you go hmmmm

It may be something in the atmosphere. More times than I'm comfortable with recently, I've found myself wanting to be a bit nasty to some particularly (fill in your own adjective) post. I think I've done a good job of walking it off rather than typing away, but just having the desire concerns me.

In most cases, being snappy does more damage to the attacker than the attacked.

Sigh. . . . In my case it's this miserable cold, not that that's a good excuse, but an excuse it is!

Wise words and so very true. While I may feel really good as I hammer away a biting response, I generally regret not being able to rise above it later.

I was just a little bit caustic in the "Big Issue" thread but, other than that, I've been keeping myself pretty well reined in. I am deliberately avoiding the current discussion on the Iraq question because I have nothing constructive to contribute and have a tendency to resort to bitter irony in such contexts. I like myself better when I exercise a degree of restraint when it comes to tongue and pen. Shit....does this mean I might actually be...dare I say it.....growing? naaahhhh...

yeah. climate change of the nation. climate change of the weather. climate change of economy.

there are many changes going on.
change in season as people gear up for upcoming holidays and the stress of impending long winter.....

people DO get grumpy this time of year. esp. a lot of them have that S.A.D. disease too.

Amen! I've found nine out of ten times, walking away to be an extremely prudent choice. It's always better to come back later and just laugh at what you thought you might have done.

I fully admit that i bite a bit more at times. I am a pretty confrontational person as it is, have never backed down from a good conversation, especially if it strikes a chord in me. I have always been the type of person that says the first thing that comes out of my mouth in r/l....and shoots down to my fingers here online. That bites me in the ass sometimes too......that's ok though.
I enjoy saying exactly what i think rather than walking around it.

Hope y'all have a great weekend!

(The Man is home this weekend...yayayayay!!!)

Message boards go through moods and shifts, it's a natural thing. IME the normal pattern is the initial grouping, tentative reaching out and massive influx of info, then you get comfortable, the regulars get established, the different typical cyber personalities are developed, which leads to a period of peace-stagnation-infighting, which results in shifts of power and reduction in people posting, which opens up new slots for new people/ideas to come in.

Thus beginning the pattern again.

This isn't a perfect circle, you can skip steps or be on one step a really long time...but I just take moods like this in stride and ride it out.

when im on the boards i try and bite my own tounge before responding. But most the posts i write are asking questions, so i kindly thank people for their responses no matter what i actually think of them. The only time i think i get really fiesty is when people send me private messages that are rude and insulting to me or Mine, and at that point im not very good at restraining myself from being rude back.

i think the boards as a whole does goes through its moods, and as Emerald said, its natural. i think around this time of year everyone has gotten a bit too stressed and too iratated and it sometimes slips in messages. -shrugs-

You've been here long enough to know this post gets posted every couple of month's. Back when the board's first started the post used to be because people would put want ad's on the boards. Well, the boards have evolved and this is the post of choice now.

As all the other's have responded before me, people have bad days. People get tired of reading the same old stuff all of the time.
They lash out, it is human nature...wait a week and it will be better.

I'd rather have it this way, then Phony, Nicey, Nicey.

I'd rather people be point blank Honest, then Wishy-Washy to be polite.
I prefer people being themselves in the moment...Get some thicker skin
people. The Boards would get pretty boring quite quickly, if there wasn't a mix of differing perspectives and colorful moods.

Have a Great weekend smilezz!

I think it may be representative of boredom to a certain degree. Lately the boards have seemed less stimulating for one reason or another. I know why they seem that way to me (many of the same topics covered ad nauseum). Tends to make me a little grumpy but as man is the highest form of animal and able to control his/her animal instincts to a certain degree, I've managed to hold my tongue, er fingers.

I don't want to sound too contrary, but I disagree about Man being the highest form of animal. For me, there is no valid way to rank the worthiness or quality of lifeforms. But I know what you meant and I do see your point about having some self-control.

Jesus....seconds after I finished posting my previous entry, Otis the Cat jumped onto the work table next to my desk, landed on a 14-page medical article I just printed out for my class, went into an uncontrolled skid, and slid off the other side of the table...somehow managing to shred the article and spill a 32 ounce cup of ice water all over the place!

I am reconsidering his worthiness as a lifeform.
