abcbsex -> nausea, the pill, help? (4/8/2008 8:31:31 AM)

I'm on a hormonal pill form of birth control and the days that I start taking it after the week of placebos really kill me. I wake up in the morning feeling like if I move I'll throw up. In fact, that's why I've been sitting very still at the computer for the last few hours. I know this doesn't have much to do with bdsm but it does affect sex (no DT unless Alpha wants some rainbow action) so I'm just putting it out there... Any other ladies out there have any advice?

This is a new prescription for me but just the generic version of what I was taking before... and pretty much the lowest dose the doctor thought would be effective. Is there any other form of birth control that doesn't have the same side effects? or some kind of food, etc to help the nausea? Thanks in advance.

i would call your doctor and talk to him/her about the nausea.
And about the nausea, i would eat a few saltine crackers before i even sat up (though this was for morning sickness).

Reeds Ginger Brews

(or some crystalized ginger)

saltines

Did the brand name cause the same issue?

abcbsex -> RE: nausea, the pill, help? (4/8/2008 8:46:08 AM)

yes, the brand name did the same thing. Though when I first started taking bc I was on another brand name that was even worse, so we went to something with fewer hormones in it. so far no improvement. I just want to have hope that this isn't normal, you know?

When are you taking it? Are you taking it on an empty stomach?

some people do get nauseous...as for other methods talk to your Dr... perhaps a progestin only pill or maybe the ring since it doesn't go through your entire system.
There is always a diaphram and/or condoms of course.

Some people have greater luck taking it with dinner.

I went through the same thing when I first started taking the pill and I found that I tolerated it better when I took it with food as opposed to having an empty stomach.  Give that a try and see if that helps.  Good luck.

Pyrrsefanie -> RE: nausea, the pill, help? (4/8/2008 9:02:28 AM)

From what I understand, it's a normal reaction, but the effects should go away within the first three months while your body adjusts to the pill.

If it's STILL making you sick to your stomach after a long period of time, I'd recommend talking to your doctor, who may be able to give you something else that can cut out the nausea.  The prescription stuff is... just... godly.  It laughs at Mylanta and then sodomizes it with a roll of Tums.

In the meantime, oatmeal, saltines, and ginger ale are a few of my favorite things for helping to settle my stomach.

Hope you get some advice on this thread that helps!

Usually I take it at night before I go to bed, so after I've had something to eat but not right after. Then in the morning it's bad. do you think changing to midday would help?

this slave uses the all natural herb, cannabis, (prescribed by her MD, sanctioned by the voters of Great State of California under the Compassionate Use Act of 1996 and grown cheaply in the backyard, so as not to break any local and state laws) to relieve her of the hormonally induced morning nausea...as well as the breast discomfort, mood swings, body aches, migraine nausea, and the crying at commercials with puppies in them.[:)]

It sounds great but may prove ...impractical... for those subject to testing.

It may just be that the specific pill you're on is affecting you badly. I switched from a pill I'd been taking happily for years to a lower dose, assuming that might get rid of a minor problem possibly caused by the BC. However, the low-dose pill made me feel all wonky, and I got strange symptoms on my period that I'd never experienced before (crazy back aches, headaches, general insanity). I switched back to my higher-dose and am happy with it.

So just because a lower-dose is supposed to do whatever, don't rule out a higher dose, I guess some pills just work differently.

i would suggest that you try changing the time you are taking it, and some people are prone to hormonal outbursts when they are not taken at or around the same time.  i found taking it in the morning with breakfast helps, but saltines were good, and ginger is a big help for nausea and flat coke will work too.  You might want to talk to the doctor as far as alternative methods, perhaps and IUD or a marina system or something of that effect, where there are no hormones involved, where it is a system devised to cause irritation to the uterus preventing implantation.  Just another method, but perhaps you should have your levels checked and see who balanced they are in relation to the levels you are taking, perhaps instead of taking a combi pill you might need one that only contains one hormone, or switch to a monophasic pill, where the hormone levels are constant.  Follow your instinct and the suggestions(which are all good and talk it over with your doctor) you shouldn't have to live like that.

Speaking from experience, sometimes it's just that your body doesn't like the hormonal change. Which means, chances are if/when you do get pregnant, you're going to enjoy the wonderful curse of morning sickness. That's what it sounds like to me... your body is fooled into thinking you're pregnant and have morning sickness! Personally, i can't take any hormonal medicine orally without becoming violently sick. i had to go with the Depo shot (which i wouldn't recommend as it's my #2 child!), or they now have an insertable form of birth control.

But, having dealt with severe morning sickness on several occassions (yes, i was insane enough to have a few children) and losing weight and blah blah blah complications, i can offer you many suggestions on dealing with the morning nausia if you'd like to chat with me. Trust me, the list is just too long to post here! But i'll jot down a few...

1) when you wake up in the morning, before you move or do anything, eat some dry crackers or dry cereal. Then wait at least 15 minutes before you get up.
2) separate your solid foods from your liquids until your stomache has settled down. Generally, i could drink without throwing up, but had to wait at least an hour before i could eat anything solid. May work the other way around for you.
3) when nausious, try putting some ice on your stomache. i know, sounds strange but it worked for me. Just don't put it directly to your skin, and only 10-15 minutes at a time.
4) always keep snacks handy. If you let yourself get hungry, your stomach may get upset... which may be why you're feeling sick in the mornings. You're going an extended time without eating! If you wake up in the middle of the night, just munch on a light snack. Again, crackers and dry cereal by your bed come in handy!

Ok, enough babbling... g'luck, and feel better!

sensualsub1 -> RE: nausea, the pill, help? (4/9/2008 8:43:01 PM)

Have you considered an IUD? I personally was not able to take the pill and was forced to look at other options. Looking back I'm glad that I did. I've had virtually no side effects other than a lack of periods, who can complain about that? lol IUDs got a bad rap for many years when the copper IUD was the only one available on the market. Today there is a new Mirena IUD. It is only left in place for five years versus the ten that the copper IUD was used for. The downfall of the IUD is that you have to have it inserted by a doctor and the insertion can be painful when they dilate the cervical opening. On the upside it has less than a 1% failure rate. The thing I love most about it is you can have it inserted and pretty much forget it other than monthly self checks to make sure it has not migrated. I like not having to remember to take a pill everyday. Just some food for thought :)
