As much as I enjoyed "Titans", I gotta go with "The Longest Yard" with Adam Sandler.  Too funny!

Phin -> RE: Best Sports Movie (4/8/2008 12:58:40 PM)

I have only seen two of the listed movies... I dont feel qualified to vote

I am in total agreement with you, rubberpet.  I loved "Remember the Titans".  But, "The Longest Yard was SOOO much better!!!

Each are unique in there own elements , time period, and sport....extremely difficult to just pick one.

I wanted to choose Slap Shot (oh those Hanson brothers) but it wasn't one of the choices.

Phoenix

Million Dollars Baby - but it doesn't figure in your selection.

faerytattoodgirl -> RE: Best Sports Movie (4/8/2008 2:38:19 PM)

the best is of a title i cant remember of an ugly girl nobody wanted and these high school football players make a bet and one had to date her and they end up falling in love at the end...it was a movie with spoofs of other movies within.

'Rollerball' - With James Caan playing the great 'Jonathan E'. The 'Clockwork Orange' of sports films.
"Ladies and gentlemen, will you stand please for the playing of our Corporate Hymn."

Depends on how you define "Sports".

I would want to vote for The Hustler, with Paul Newman
& Jackie Gleason.  Great movie.  From your list Hoosiers.

Outlier

Friday Night Lights
Rudy
Radio
The Rookie

Ugh, I couldn't watch the whole thing, I like the original too much.

OP, I picked Rocky from your choices, but I would have voted for The Natural if it had been there. Brian's Song, Bang The Drum Slowly, Rudy, When We Were Kings, Pumping Iron, and Eight Men Out were all terrific sports movies.

Ru-dy! Ru-dy! Ru-dy! Ru-dy!

Rudy never got a lot of critical praise, if I remember correctly, but I loved it. The underdog making good, warms the cockles of my heart, and ya'll know how I feel about my cockles. [:)]

faerytattoodgirl -> RE: Best Sports Movie (4/8/2008 6:48:27 PM)

Helllooooooo.....Brian's Song, ???? Why isn't it on the list????

Tantriqu -> RE: Best Sports Movie (4/8/2008 7:38:04 PM)

SLAPSHOT;  funny, still topical, starring Paul Newman and with hot bodies of both sexes, and written by a woman.  'nuf said.

BitaTruble -> RE: Best Sports Movie (4/8/2008 8:14:53 PM)

Wow.. no Raging Bull or A League of their Own?
