the incident happened in what is a suburb of Chicago, still considerred  Chicagoland.     If someone lost thier cool over unruley  kids, I can understand.[but] to elevate it to the police getting involved, well that isnt the job of police.  Not to raise ones kids.

Chicago is one of the racest cities in the country.   shh we wont tell anyone.

Without being there, its hard for anyone to know the tone this person took with these children.  Do the police write tickets for disorderly conduct at every complaint?

Most black people I know are very circumspect about making accusations of racism, precisely because in these days of the backlash, there's a horde of people waiting to freak out about it.  Sometimes, people are nasty - especially to kids and especially when they think no-one is watching.

I know I've seen many more cases of racist name-calling being ignored and unreported than acted on.

For a major city, yes. It is very racest.  It is not like west coast cities, and is evolveing up to date- the underlieing  tones in the metro are racist.  the 1st mayor Daily --put the interstate to segregate the hoods.

I might add- that rascism isnt always what 1st comes to mind.

In most of the metro police are too busy to be botherred by pettiness like this.

Tho- there are petty uppidy suburbs particularly north, such as carpentersville- that I can picture this happening.

also- there are some situations where no matter what the police do- it will be noted.

RealityLicks -> RE: Overly sensitive assholes analese will not cure. (4/9/2008 6:21:17 AM)

I think I know what you mean.  But being able to "picture" something happening, rather than seeing an ambiguous set of circumstances really depends on what you bring to the report to begin with.

Just saying, there are three sides to every story:  x's version, y's version and the truth.

charmdpetKeira -> RE: Overly sensitive assholes analese will not cure. (4/9/2008 6:23:17 AM)

It is sad that we can not expect adults will act more mature then children, unfortunately in this day and age, it happens.

Name calling by adults is not only done in a racist fashion, but also just to be degrading to those who are smaller and unable to defend themselves.

I hope people begin to realize, every time someone runs to  law enforcement with a problem, it is the same as saying “I do not wish to have this responsibility”, therefore, giving them the ability to take away more liberties.

If this keeps up, people will be getting arrested for looking at each other wrong.

Yes, agreed.

My post last post was in general, not specific to this case.

That's sophistry of a pretty high order, Camille.

I'm not saying there was or wasn't a racist element, simply that the piece is aimed at causing this very reaction among people - indignation that innocent people are the victims of thought police, when the reality is this woman was disorderly.  It's one person's word against another and people aren't being as neutral as they would like to believe they are on this.

Umm, why exactly would racism be reported and to who is it supposed to be reported, and for what purpose. Fortunately, or unfortunately according to your perspective, racism isn't actually a crime, outside the realm of business, and formal affairs. As stands this story is in reference to what at most is a residentual issue.  So, is there a charge for being racist, now, or rather perceived to be racist by some. Anyway, if one thinks that snarky backyard comments are now grounds for some kind of "charge" to be levied, then my friends, we are in the midst of a full blown thought crime era, all over again.

Anyway, I do find it more than a little Ironic that this woman supports obama, and is at the same time being charged with racism. LOL. So, I'm to believe in the worst case perspective of this event, that a woman, who thinks black people are monkeys would want a black president? Insanity at its best. And calling out of control children monkeys for the record is very common, around here. Granted I live around predominantly white people, that's the primary demographic here, but just goes to show in this neck of the woods, Monkey references in regards to unruly children  isn't racist.

Could someone please make a website to keep track of all these thought crimes and banned words, it's hard to keep up with it all, and I'd hate to say something and not be aware that it is newly offensive and get a visit from the (thought) police.

LOL, this country is full of retarded monkeys, like I said earlier.

Anyway, Obama is apparently a huge hypocrite, seeing that just a week or so ago the controversy was over much more racial toned speeches given by his preacher, that he sat and listened to for 20 years, than this. And I didn't think he should be punished for it, and now, they'll toss someone out for saying "acting like monkeys". It seems Obama wants understanding and tolerance when it suits him, but not extend it. No thanks, fuck that hypocrisy, Anyway, I've decided I'm not even voting for Obama if he gets the nomination. I was going to reluctantly vote for him if he it was Obama versus McCain, but I can't do it now.

I have to wonder what George Bush thinks of all this?

Is he annoyed or insulted by being compared with an unruly child?

Holy roadapples, Batman!  Someone scolded a kid!  It has to be racist!  What a load of crap.

Naked, I also work with children. I have not read the article closely enough for it to be clear to me that the children were being scolded. That would make a difference, to me. And not, i'm afraid, in the direction you want it to.
When i scold children, i am ten times more careful what i call them and say to them than i might be, if i were teasing and playing with them. there are little girls i worked with whose last name was 'house'. as Christmas approached, i took to calling them 'the house elfs'. after the first time i caught myself doing it, i made myself stop until the end of that day so i could tell their mother and ask if she had objections to Harry Potter. would it be silly for her to? of course. never mind, they are her kids, and i wanted to be sure i was respecting her wishes with them.
if she was scolding the children, no name was appropriate, period. if she was teasing them, well... i have to say, in that case, that it would not be a racist thing, necessarily, for you or me, maybe, if we were just teasing - provided we were willing to stop if we were told the parent found it offensive. but she has accepted a politically sensitive position, and she must be more aware of what she says.
'monkey' has, unfortunately, been used as a racial slur in this country. it is not a random association, 'oh, i think i'll call that racist'. it has been before, it will be again. someone in a high position in a politicians campaign reflects upon their candidate and part of their job is being unusually careful about what they say. I'm sorry, it goes with the job.

"I do not take a single newspaper, nor read one a month, and I feel myself infinitely the happier for it. " ~ Thomas Jefferson

The age of "politically correct" is as surely a blight upon this nation as a government capable of acting in secret.

Unfortunately the media is their greatest weapon. They distract us with this story or that, keep drumming away at it until we hold only the opinions they want us to on the limited topics they allow us.

I profess no love of what this country has become. I mourn the death of the beautiful ideals that the founding fathers had envisioned.

"Those who would trade a little freedom for a little security deserve neither and will lose both." ~ Benjamin Franklin

Nowadays, its the height of political correctness to oppose political correctness.  Is this the first story like this you've seen?  Will there be another next week?  These radicals scare conservatives like me.

Realizing words only hold value to us on a personal level, if we allow them to, can’t have anything to do with politics; it’s too honest.

That's a good point, seeing all the monkey references to bush around here. LOL, I had no idea they were calling him a derogatory black moniker(usage?) it never occurred  to me, before. So many new opportunities for being offended are opening up everyday!!!! I'm so happy I'll never be bored again. Just offended all the time like a third or more of the posters up here.

I can finally find my group and life calling!!

Excuse me I have to go through the past forum archives and report all instances of this unacceptable racist language.( Monkey...) IMMEDIATELY. We just can't have people using words in a varied manner any longer, it must stop! I mean otherwise people have to do things like judge context, and be rational, that clearly is impossible.

So, the solution is to simplify language to make it less ambiguous, and simple to consume and in the mean time, apply an unprovable metric based on skin color and economic level to determine who is or isn't racist when using the word..

I propose to eliminate one ambiguous term a week and reassign all it's meanings to one true universal meaning or eliminate the word entirely. To use that word there after is a crime, if it has been eliminated, and to use it outside it's intended meaning, requires a trip to the nearest Re-Education facility. Then we can finally 100% judge people by the words they say and not deal with context.

Yes, I believe we can reduce the language down to a few thousand terms, then we can truly, understand everything a person says with bothering with the situation it occurred or use one bit of intellectual capacity.

Brilliant, No need for PC if the offensive words just don't exist.

truly, I must be a genius to think of such a solution.

LOL, 1984 rocks, I love that book.
