I figure these kinds of definitions or constraints are really up to each individual to determine for themselves. A lively discussion doesn't hurt but accepting someone elses definition one could easily wake up at a later date and find that they've been living someone elses life.

...compliments on the insightful analysis of this sometimes quandry of sorts...

#2 I make later is that I replace the idea that law holds a slave in place with the idea that a slaves own honor holds them in place. That certainly is more beautiful than someone held in place by law or even social preasure.

I see this a lot from masters, the fact that the slave should commit to stay no matter what simply because they gave their word. Irregardless of the fact that the master broke his long time back.

What's being left out in statements like this is the fact that if the words given encompass treating each other with respect, being there for each other, trying to fulfill each other's desires etc then there wouldn't be any reason for them to want to leave.

Without that greater context, the word given does not necessarily mean it should be kept. A master who harms a slave by demanding things that she cannot do without suffering mental trauma doesn't deserve to have her keep her word. Included here is demanding she fucks other men or women just because he tells her to. If the relationship was predicated on monogamy, then the relationship or contract ends when he breaks it by demanding nonmonogamy.

You cannot unilaterally change a contract. Just as both parties must agree to the negotiations upfront, any major and drastic changes must be agreed to later on.

You break your word and that releases the slave from hers.

Well if you have to put in that contingency, then you have to, personally I never meant nor thought the idea that even after abuse of the situation the slave's honor should hold them in place.

Beyond comfort, maybe. Beyond having their want's never met possibly, Beyond having their needs met, Not in my book. There have always been the breaking point beyond which someone must subvert one value to insure they honor another value. That's just a fact of life.

My point is that there are certainly some hardships that must be endured based on honoring ones word. (BTW that goes on both sides of the / mark). You make a promise and you generally are obligated to keep that promise to the most of your ability.
"The most of your ability" being the key part of that sentance.
