You have your answer.

How can you joke about what may or may not have happened to John McCain and other POW's?  Imho they are heros in the truest sense and slamming them for what they had no control over is a clear sign of a lack of character. This topic is sickening.

My goodness SugarMyChurro. Do you have this much contempt for all victims of horrific crimes?

I'm not the bit right winged, but I do admire senator McCain for being as intact as he seems to be after years of inhuman treatment. Most men would have died under such brutality.  And many did.

You don't have to agree with his politics. (I sure don't) You don't have to even like the man. (I don't) But at least honor the fact that he's a brave and enduring soldier.

I don't know if he's brave. I've heard some evidence to the contrary.

I don't care if he was a soldier. Viet Nam was a debacle the U.S. should never have entered into. I believe in giving soldiers their due, but no more than that. They aren't heroes for playing the thug for the U.S. on the international scene.

I agree that war for any cause is barbaric. The Viet Nam fiasco just like the Iraq blunder is despicable. Still, for reason I'll never understand, it's a part of our human experience.

People who survive the type of conditions McCain endured should be commended. If not a hero, he's at least one remarkable man.

Did you realize that insulting McCain as being a closet POW "homo", you've insulted gay people?

Do you have something against gay people?

Most of the "thugs" were not in Vietnam by choice...they were drafted.

And if you really meant that you believe in giving a soldier his due then perhaps you need to alot John McCain the respect he earned as a POW survivor.

would a gay person do something against their wiring to spare a beating.  yup.

the thing is one can have a gay experience w/o wanting it,w/o being gay.

it isnt fun for either partner...not really.

bi guys are widly hot, and some, more % then typical population are risky.

McCain speaks with civility. I afford him that much.   the thing is- if during non-captivity, he had encounter[SS}  then ild say there was  gay or bi or curious.

it is a comment tactic in prisons to put the fear of homo-acts into the guys.

the other thing is --it is hard to know what happened. drugs were used.  deprivation of major proprtions happened.

This bothers me for sooo many reasons...

1)There is no denying that what he went through was horrific.
Under those circumstances bravery or the perception of cowardice are mute points.

2) My personal belief if you go by The Klein Sexual Orientation Grid (or something similar) is that there are very few absolutes...very few 1s, very few 7s ...but let's say for the sake of argument's that consensual sex occurs between men in that situation...I do not beleive it makes you "gay" any more that experimental contact when one is a curious UM does... .

3) You are making issue out of something minor that is simply too old to matter...you aren't the same person you were that long ago either.

4. As someone already mentioned you are using the term gay in a way that defines "gay" as being bad.

5. Already mentioned: being a recipent of unwanted contact being raped or anything less than something 100% consensual does not define your sexual preferences.

6...*leaves to go bang head some place else*

I don't see any connection between the post and the story at all.  I am definitely NOT a Republican but that's doesn't mean that I think they are all fuckwads either.  It just means that I don't agree with most of their political philosophy.  I don't hate Republicans and I am sure there is more good than bad in most.  Just as with most groups of human beings.  Digging out a single sentence from an account from someone who was imprisoned and tortured for fighting in a war (not starting a war, not looting civilians, not...) and even twisting that sentence into something that wasn't even said is one of the most lame political commentaries I think I have ever heard.

I was a kid during the Vietnam "Conflict."  I didn't like it then I don't like war now.  Nobody I knew hated or even midly disliked the soldiers that were fighting.  We all had these bronze POW bracelets with missing soldiers names on it that we thought about or prayed for every day.  We tied yellow ribbons on trees waiting for our neighbors to come home unharmed.  These were real people, people in our community, people in our families.  Nobody gave a crap about what their political leanings were.  We just wanted them home and safe.

Come to think of it, this can't be a serious post can it?  It has to be some old Beevis and Butthead routine right?  "He said 'Gay' *snicker snicker*."
