ORIGINAL: blckmlslv Recently, however, I was told that being slapped in the face could put one in danger of suffering a detached retina. Does anyone know anything about such a possibility? I do not consider myself an expert on the matter but here is what I have picked up from forum discussions and seminars. These points appeal to my intuition. Face slapping has greater risk when it causes the neck or the head to jerk violenty. This scenario is most likely to occur when a slap is unexpected and delivered with great force. To mitigate this risk, one can reduce the force of the slap (especially when unexpected), allow preparation for the slap, or cradle the face in the other hand to prevent a whiplash motion. It is best to aim the slap on the cheek. There is greater risk for injury if the slap lands on the temple or the ear. A slap delivered on the lower jaw, especially if the jaw is open, can also cause injury. A slap inadvertently delivered on the nose carries great risk of embarrassment for the top for having such bad aim ;-) Making contact with the fingertips against the cheek is least likely to cause injury. I have heard at least one woman say she does not like sting and prefers the slap delivered with the palm for its heavier impact. The heavier impact, be it by weight of hand or by strength of delivery, can create mini-concussions. All that said, I am a proponent of RACK. Cheers, Sea
