dollparts85 -> Anyone have a baby tooth removed as an adult? (4/9/2008 11:04:46 AM)

I still have a baby tooth...in the front...and my dentist wants to pull it...and he thinks the adult tooth, which is impacted up in the gum line...will go down into place...I'm afraid that it won't though and I'll be left with a big gap! Anyone have a baby tooth removed as an adult? Did the adult tooth move down into place?

I had one removed when I was about 11.  It didn't fall out.  The big tooth sort of grew and pushed it out of the way...yet for whatever reason the baby was still hanging on.

The dentist is likely right after all it is what he does for a living.

My son had a baby tooth removed at age 7.  For the same reason you've stated, it didn't have enough space to let the permanet tooth come through.  They put a spacer in a few weeks after it was pulled and his permanent tooth came in with no difficulty.  Do I dare mention the words:  oral surgeon.

It happens all the time, it's no big deal, just get it done and be done with it.

is there a reason he wants to pull it at your age, aside from the hopes that the adult one will come in?
if there anything wrong with it?
my teacher has two baby teeth still , on the top the 3rd teeth over i think, and shes 36, so.. unless theres a real good reason i'd say leave it alone.

Not uncommon that the adult tooth won't come in if the baby tooth is still there. Pull it and watch it drop. Should it for some unknown reason not drop, then the orthodontist can easily put a bracket on it and pull it down in a few weeks.

One of my sisters (48) still has most of her baby teeth and has absolutely no problems. Well.. no problems with her teeth. [;)]

HoneyMaster says (given what you have told us) it would be a good idea to get it out.

(He teaches this stuff)

I can't afford that and I doubt medicaid would pay for that [:(]
