Corvidae -> cuff mufflers (looking for quiet kink) (4/10/2008 2:05:39 AM)

Hey all!
So, I just splurged and bought some leather cuffs and nipple clamps for myself. However, they are both rather clanky, and I am not "out" as kinky to my roommate who's room is right across from mine. I don't want to have to answer questions about any noises she might hear. So I was wondering, does anyone have any advice on either reducing the noise of the equipment I already have, or some (preferably inexpensive) quiet kinky toys I could get. I know that rope would be ideal, but since I am putting it on myself (and I have a hard enough time as it is just buckeling the cuffs) I don't think it would be very practical.
Many thanks!
Corvidae

Vinyl tool dip works great to quiet clanking metal. The downside is that unless the metal rings are easily removeable from your cuffs it will be almost impossible to apply it. You could also try shrink wrap electrical tape. It fuses to itself and shrinks to less than 1/2 its original mass.

Rope and a ball gag.  Get some heavy duty athletic socks...don't spare the 2 bucks when it comes to thickness.

Wrap them around your wrists and ankles before you wrap the rope around.  No marks that way no matter how much you pull and tug.

Give them a cloth wrap.

Thanks for the advice!
I hadn't heard about shrink wrap electric tape... I'll have to look it up.
A gag sounds fun, although it wouldn't solve my noise problem (i'm more worried about clanking chains than screams of extacy... I wish I could get things that intense all by myself lol)
Again, rope would be a bit tricky for me (unless somoene wants to teach me some one handed or no handed rope tieing tricks).
Has anyone tried bondage tape? It sounds pretty nice (quiet, cheap, versatile). Does it actually work? How hard is it to use on one's self?

Thanks again for your advice!

I'm a long time bondager and I make all sorts of designs. Drop me a line if you want some tips.

~FR~

Try using stockings/pantyhose (sans the 'panty'part) to twine through & along the links. Multiple colors & 2 - 3 strands can add a personal touch. For the nipple clamps, that connective chain may be too small for pantyhose/stockings, so perhaps some silk yarns, such as one might use for needlework. It may be a bit tedious, all that twining/braiding through the links, but....the effect might be worth it. ;-D

Have fun!

Put on music or get a white noise machine, or both. Not specifically addressing the cuffs issue but noise in general.

Get a hitachi wand to make those loud noises on your own. ;)  I have lots of friends that swear by them. Now for the other noises, if you are using chains, then slide plastic sleeve over it, kinda like what the military uses for dog tag silencers, for the nipple clamps replace the chain with thin rope or string. Instead of using chain I would recommend rope or webbing.

Well, we used to use colored rubber bands to silence the clanking and jingling on our pets' collars. Might be worth a try. Pretty easy to get them, the colors might make interesting patterns. *shrug* Just a suggestion

Thanks again everyone!
Colorful yarn or rubber bands or pantyhose through the links sounds like it might be just up my alley (I'm the arts and craftsey type).

I wear a twist-link kind of chain which makes a soft rustle when I move about. Much quieter than regular hardware store stuff. Hubby recently tried some aluminum chain. It is secure but almost noiseless. I do enjoy the rustle/jingle of the chains, though.

Duh SARAN WRAP!!!! It's probably in your kitchen right now...

Luciferica -> RE: cuff mufflers (looking for quiet kink) (4/14/2008 12:12:14 AM)

duct tape...they make it multi colored now!..try plastic chain, or the kind of chain you use for dogtags, you can get it a lowes/home despot all day long..pony tail holders also work...

I use just leather, straight up, no chains..and a soft rope lead from the local tackshop for rope stuffs, it has a snap, so I can loop the rope thru the snap and quick release if I need to, same can be done with a leather horse lead

ALSO, you can get latigo lacing, the leather variety in colors and use it like yarn, it's harder, and therefore easier to work with!!

This option works best in my experience.

I have used plasti dip from a place called Harbor freight. They sometimes have both a spray version and a dip version. It appears right now they only have the dip one, but the spray one works ok also if they have it, just mask of the leather parts of the cuffs with masking tape. If i see the spray can one in the near future i will post a link to it. ( i have bought a few things from the "tool" company to use for kinky purposes)

depending on how large & long the chain is, there is also shrink tubing.
