but honestly? i'm just glad that i have something to carry me between now and summer financial aid so that i can eat and buy my medicine while i try to find a job that i can do with my health the way it is. unfortunately those concerns take precedence over any anger due to what a serious fuck over this whole thing is.

annabelle,
That's what keeps the process going.

Like my clients using it to pay me, the vast majority of folks will be grateful for the money and consider this a good thing. It serves the politicians wanting to maintain the status quo hoping that you'll vote to reelect them to insure it. More than likely - that's exactly how most will process this information. They should be thinking "why am I so blessed?"

The best con is one that the victim never knows the nature of the con. The relationship between the PAC's, the politicians, the existing government, and major industry represents a united front. Individual citizens are manipulated by them. This check represents such manipulation. The "what else can we do"; is the worst case reaction considered.

Of course we could do something. We could eliminate from consideration party affiliations when we vote and just vote 'no' by excluding from consideration any incumbent. However that's where manipulation in the form of propaganda comes into play. Notice that most of the campaign rhetoric is negative comment on the opposition, the opposition party, or the past. Even the loudest call for change by Senator Obama is, under scrutiny, hollow. What "change" is represented by the call for more money, more taxes, going to long failed Federal education programs? Senator Clinton called for a new cabinet level department for poverty. If anything it will insure the perpetration of poverty. How have the Departments of Education and Energy; formed under President Carter solved those issues? A government bureaucracy has one goal - maintaining the bureaucracy; anyone served or helped in the process is purely incidental. If the money used for the Department of Education were spread out to the citizens each of us would receive an economic stimulus of about 5 figures. I doubt any school's education program would suffer.

Before my friend Owner59 thinks this has evolved into an attack on the Democrats, let it be know I believe the most dangerous man running in this election is Senator McCain. His corporate affiliation runs deep. His stubbornness his positions exceeds President Bush and because he believes himself to be more intelligent, he'll be less likely to be swayed from a decision. His world view to assist industry is on record. Every individual's ability to increase income is effected by his desire to give amnesty to millions who consider minimum wage as a high paying job.

I'm not of the believe that there is nothing that can be done. What can be done is to not do the expected. Granted we get few opportunities. One comes around every November, but I'm afraid the propaganda and manipulating educational system have made most lose the ability to consider the 'no vote' I support. This check happened to be a rare, non-voting, opportunity. However, the existing desperate conditions make not spending the check for most unlikely.

I wanted to show through the example of my small company who this program really stimulated. I hope to have generated some thought.

the thing is the big corporations install  their own judges.

even if you are legally right,   lawyers cost big money.

I guess we are no longer irrational[ly] exhuberant?

i know it's what keeps the process going. at least i'm aware of what the process is. i wish i could do something to stop it. but at the moment, the reason they are so damn good at what they do is that they manage to keep people like me in the situation we are in.

The government will totally hate me, but mine is going directly into my savings account.  That is the thing that most requires stimulation.

Katy, out of curiousity, do you have any outstanding credit/loans that have to be paid off? If you answer yes, then your putting that money in savings is costing you money. You will not make enough intrest to offset the intrest you pay. Better to use the money to reduce your outstanding credit/loans. Then when you have them paid off, start saving and avoid credit as much as possible.
