Gods-rotted &*^%% dishwasher!

I have a theory about kitchen applicances and vehicles....if they hear that there's spare cash to be had (say, from income tax returns or a nice stash of savings) then they die.  Tits up.  Sometimes quietly, sometimes in more spectacular fashion.

I was berating myself for not starting the dishwasher on my way out earlier today.  So I starts it up, crank up collarme, and after awhile I'm going * sniff sniff SNIFF shit what's on fire?? *

Looks like the motor's died, and it almost lit up the plastic inside.  Now I'm really glad I didn't fire (heh heh) it off earlier.  Turkey thing is only six years old.

So, gentle readers, got any good war stories of appliance or vehicle death?

On Thanksgiving i had the joy *grumble* of doing a great deal of the cooking to taking to the hosts home. I was doing the sweet potatoes, rolls and about four other sides plus 3 desserts. I had been at it all day...put the shit..uh...put the food in the oven to stay warm and went in to shower and wake up napping Sir (exausting day of  football and beer *burp*). For some stupid reason the oven picked this time to ignite.

Now...get a mental image of this...i am getting out of the shower, dripping everywhere and there is a knock on the bathroon door. I thought he wanted sex so i was about to tell him something really rude. Instead i hear that the kitchen is full of smoke. By the time my semi nude ass made it to the kitchen the entire house was filled with smoke and flames were  visible. I had a sneaky hunch this day was pretty well shot in the ass.

Anyhoo...Sir grabbed the um and i grabbed the phone. We both knew using an extingusher would be really dumb, as the oven door would have to be opened and Lord only knew where that move would lead. The 911 operator suggested we get the hell out of the house.

It was November. I was dripping. Wearing a towel. Cold. Naked. Pissed.

The fire co arrived (three trucks) just in time...as the entire stove was pretty much engulfed. The fire was put out, they helped us air out the house, allowed me to get dressed, and suggested from now on we use a caterer.

*snort*

Naaa...that was when the cable went out...

thornhappy -> RE: Appliances, vehicles and cash (4/11/2008 1:19:54 PM)

So far, you have the best war story.  You quibblers may not that it's the only one so far, but flames and almost-naked-in-November're going to be hard to beat!

(so hey, tell us about the cable outage!)

I had a dryer catch fire when I was still married. The, ummm, ever so intelligent now-ex didn't know what to do and woke me up from a dead sleep since it was aftter midnight. I had just worked 16 hours and had to be back to work at 6 am. I shot out of bed bare ass naked (sorry, holly, I didn't have time for a towel!) to run to the dryer as I'm screaming at the ex to call the fire department. I started working on getting it unplugged and out till the firemen arrived. When they arrived a couple of minutes later, I couldn't figure out why they were smiling until the ex brought me a shirt and mentioned that he had pants waiting for me in the bedroom. Grrrrrrr...... [8|] I never could go past that station again after that even though it was just down the street from me. [&o]

Reflectivesoul -> RE: Appliances, vehicles and cash (4/11/2008 2:37:29 PM)

oh lord, appliance horror stories lol lol...

When I first moved into this apartment I was unfamilliar with cooking in an electric oven and figured it was same as gas... oops... put a raosting hen in a glass roaster and let it go, well about 15 mins later all you could hear was lil pops from the fat spattering off the bottom of the glass dish, then all of a sudden one musta hit the heating element in the bottom, cause the oven door blew open and there were flames everywhere inside...

I did one of those ever wonderful WTF????? seconds and then slammed the door closed, it went out, no huge problem, chicken was a lil cajun'd tho lol lol

Never buy a blender that the entire bottom assembly is rubber and plastic ^^.... My um happens to love banana smoothies and so we've gone through quite a few blenders ( burn outs) and this new one was a quick cheap pick up ( my bad I know ) and I took it all apart and washed it up and put it back together. Put all the stuff in there that needed ta go in.. flipped it on... and had banana smoothie all over my kitchen, the damn bottom of the blender came undone and it was gushing out all over everywhere... Well trying to save the project I flipped the whole thing upside down, re tightened the bottom and reattempted... wrong idea.. came apart again.. so by this time my whole kitchen and I smell like banana's my um is laughing and still asking if he will get a smoothie and I'm ready to throw the damn blender out the window... so this time I get smart and pour the contents into a pitcher and go back to trying to figure out whts the deal with the blender... finally get it all snugged back up and my um was still asking so I gave it one more go around... after that time, the blender went straight to the trash... enough banana goopies for me.. I still have yet to figure out the problem I have never had one do that, but by god I'll never buy a cheap blender again.

2 days ago... my um decided he wanted ramen noodles... ( 5 and makes them himself in the microwave) puts the noodles in the bowl and I assumed the water too as he's done this several times... about 2 minutes later I see smoke billowing out of the microwave and stink omg... Never try making ramens without the water folks, it dont work so well, but it was funny as hell, my um was running around all day sayin he set the microwave on fire with noodles! ( which yes he realized wasnt a good thing and he was mad cause he completely melted his fav bowl )

You have to go to Lowe's instead.  There's a special option you can order, a set of tits.  The more you pay, the bigger the tits!

OK.  I'm familiar with this concept.  It applies to strippers and plastic surgeons, too, apparently *GRIN*

Bonus time at work, so I am researching where I am going to spend the extra $$$$$ and ----hmmmm what is that sound-----why is it so cold in the house (think a couple of weeks ago)---dagnabit the furnace has given up the ghost

Roll forward 1 week no heat ----ta da a new furnace----ta da a 10,000$$$$$$ bill

Oh well guess that saves time thinking on how to spend the extra bucks

No clever appliance stories here. However, for a new dishwasher buy a Bosch. Mine's over 12 years old and has never required servicing (knock on wood).
