i had to call the lady in question and remind her of the event...and i read some of what You guys said over the phone...you tickled a very dark lady pink...thanks.  She needed that...and so did i.  It kinda reminded me of the little blessings along the winding road that was my childhood...(or lack thereof  LOL)
Sincerest thanks...and sorry about the hijack Level...i'm sure it'll get back on track...

No need to apologize, pretty lady, there is no hijack IMO. Just a natural progression of the conversation.

I wonder if these sites like MySpace should be made 18+ only. More and more teens are getting into this cyber-bullying crap with these social networking sites.

Level -> RE: 7 of Florida's Idiotic 8 to be tried as adults (4/12/2008 11:43:31 AM)

I don't know. That leaves the bigger issue of piss-poor parenting, but maybe a pre-18 site, with special features to monitor such crap, might help.

Floggings4You -> RE: 7 of Florida's Idiotic 8 to be tried as adults (4/12/2008 12:21:32 PM)

I'm pretty sure that King advocated a 'turn the other cheek', total advocacy of non-violence.

This is one of the many matters on which MLKII and X disagreed.

Gandhi trusted in the humanity of the British, that they would not be able to treat unarmed Indians too harshy.

That strategy isn't universally viable; it would not have worked if the Jews had employed it against the Nazis, for instance (and it would not have saved unarmed Tutsis from machte-wielding Hutus in Rwanda...)

To my knowledge  MLK never advised against self defense when physically attacked. Non-violence, in a MLK or, say, Ghandi socio-political context can be a powerful moral and political tool to effect social justice and change. It, hopefully, engages our empathy and our consciences to effect cahnge. Personal bullying is, imo, an entirely different matter.

I am so happy to hear this.
May they all get at least 20 years and serve 15, maybe that will teach them a lesson.

I'd be surprised if they got that long, Mia. [:)]

winterlight -> RE: 7 of Florida's Idiotic 8 to be tried as adults (4/12/2008 12:38:28 PM)

i have gone onto that one site and they are not only posting the girls names but their house addresses and phone numbers!
I don't agree with what they have done and hope they get the book thrown at them for being totally inhumane. But to print their addresses and phone numbers?
Supposedly one girl's mom has defended her daughter. I could not with conscience defend my child for pulling something like that. I guess the old saying is true...The apple doesn't fall far from the tree?
If that is true from what i have read.
i hope they learn from this but from what has been reported (you can't believe everything, take it with a grain of salt) it sounds like that won't be the case if THIS IS TRUE....
I wonder if today way of doing things they should have the same thing done to them and feel the terror and pain that this girl went through...Nah, there would be people out there saying this is inhumane!

they should have all 8 tried as adults - the kidnapping is a felony by itself and it will carry a heavy maximum sentence along with the other charges.

Agreed, though part of me hopes that scares the fuckers a bit.

Yeah, she bascially was saying the beatee shouldn't have opened her mouth if she couldn't back it up. What a class act, what a paragon of good parenting. [>:]

I was wondering about the witness tampering charge....... I bet they tried to intimidate someone. Or bribe them.

Well you are dealing most likely with some white trash here as well. I know the general area this happened and it isnt exactly a country club.

MzMia, wouldn't it be cool if the judge was progressive and believed in "creative" sentencing;  "I sentence each of you to three years of servitude in the custody of The Florida Dominants and Domme's Society to do with you as they please."
"Bailiff, handcuff them and may God have mercy on your souls."

mzbehavin -> RE: 7 of Florida's Idiotic 8 to be tried as adults (4/12/2008 3:29:53 PM)

From what i've seen, they were white. I had thought on the news they said the girls were cheerleaders? Violence doesnt racially discriminate. It makes one wonder where we're headed in this world.

winterlight -> RE: 7 of Florida's Idiotic 8 to be tried as adults (4/12/2008 11:36:12 PM)

i think cos this is their first offense? they will get off lightly..

i hope NOT. All should be tried as adults. It was premeditated etc.

Owner59 -> RE: 7 of Florida's Idiotic 8 to be tried as adults (4/13/2008 12:07:29 AM)

they won`t get jail time.

but criminal records will affect them forever.

If they fuck up more,they`re fucked.

cyberdude611 -> RE: 7 of Florida's Idiotic 8 to be tried as adults (4/13/2008 5:19:54 AM)

Thing is you got a victim here with some very serious injuries (hearing loss, vision loss, concusion, etc..) so someone is going to jail. I think the girl that actually did the beating is in serious trouble and will get some jail time. And her future is pretty much screwed. With the other girls, it depends on their level of involvement. If all they did was witness the beating, probably get community service. If they actually did some fighting as well, they could be looking at jail as well. The two boys charged as being "lookouts" probably wont get much more than probation. But keep in mind this video is about 30 mins long. The police only released about 3 mins of it. So there is a lot of evidence here we havnt seen.

They will all also face a lawsuit in civil court. This victim is going to have some medical bills (and pain and suffering?) to be paid and you can make a case that each of these teens are liable and at fault whether they actually did the beating or not. If a jury is shown this video....the parents of these teens are going to be paying some big $$$.

camille65 -> RE: 7 of Florida's Idiotic 8 to be tried as adults (4/13/2008 5:45:00 AM)

I was reading CNN late last night and there was an unconfirmed story that dear Dr Phil bailed out the ringleader. $30,000.00 bail.

Lucylastic -> RE: 7 of Florida's Idiotic 8 to be tried as adults (4/13/2008 5:52:48 AM)

Here is a link to the site with the film, re exclusivity for Dr Phil
he must be starved for viewers or something.
Pathetic
ahem, edited to add the link:)

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080413/ap_en_tv/teen_beating There we go, the link. I think its pretty messed up, especially since it feels very much like a bid for attention on his part. Nothing like using someone in trouble to up ones media ratings. Ugh ugh.

It was stated on tv that authorities aren't releasing the worst parts of the tape [:)]

And for certain, it was more than the one girl being violent, some clips confirm that.
