NateInPhilly -> London BDSM culture (4/12/2008 4:28:39 PM)

So, obviously from my username, I'm not from London. I am however, considering moving there once I finish college in a year.

I was wondering what the BDSM culture was like in the city, is there a TNG group there? How many "good" toy shops or public dungeons are in the city? Are there a wide variety of BDSM communities and munches that meet there?

I'd also love to hear some perspectives on the city from other doms that live there.

Thank you for your time,
-NateInPhilly

London has a very vibrant and active scene. The best players club currently is Hades Dark (I'll be there this Saturday with My girl) but there ae quite a number of clubs around the city and within striking distance, from players clubs like Hades, spank, sweet torments to costume peacock oriented clubs like torture garden. Many long running Munches and other smaller munches being started all the time. LAM and LFF are both fetish fairs with demos and stalls, many of the stallholders do more business with people they have made contact with at the events than they do at the event on the day. Regular workshops and events catering for a full range of different interests.

Frankly even if You had the time and Money to attend everything (accounting for the fact that sometimes you'd need to be in two places or more at once when things clash) You'd suffer burnout within weeks.

Living here and most things being reasonably easily accessable, I have a few things each Month I like and am regular at, the rest I partake of occassionaly when money, time and energy allows.

I think TNG, right now, only exists in the US. BUT, there's no reason you couldn't start one after you get used to the scene over there. They may have an equivalent, however.

London? You want to move to London, UK, and don't know it's the new center of empire? The financial and art capital of the world- therefore a huge, happening BDSM scene. Rome will always be Rome.

I have friends who live there and tell me think Berlin. Now think what Berlin would secretly have always wanted to be when it grew up... I want to go!

London has a vibrant scene, at the centre of which lies a very friendly BDSM community.
But i won't go into too much detail about it.. my Master has already said alot..
My advice would be, if you want to get a glimpse at the local scene for London in the UK.. or perhaps the UK in general.. there's alot to see if you're prepared to travel..

Check out the boards and event listings at www.informedconsent.co.uk

You don't have to register to look through the site.. But it's free if it interests you. It's a very active UK based BDSM site, definately the best known in my experience.. and you should be able to get an excellent idea from there about what is going on in London & how active it really is.

Hope this helps x

If you don't have real money then think about living somewhere else and visiting when funds allow.

Personally I would suggest you not moving to London or anywhere else before you have visited yourself.

As for shops and stores, yes there are many and they vary from fantastic (CCK) to the tacky (AnnSummers).  TNG groups do not really exist in the UK - no reason why they shouldn't if you wanted to start one, but as a side thought, you will probably find they aren't really 'needed' in the UK as it's a completely set up here and the mix of age/types/etc is multicultural and intermixed.  (Is that even a word?)

Munches exist pretty much on all poles in London, and clubs, markets etc are regular.  It's a good centre for BDSM - but I still advise you not move before you have at least visited.

Moving to London has been on my list of definate locations if we decide to immigrate as is NZ, Canada and Danmark. Mind you the down dside to living in London is the lack of spave to have a couple of malamutse running about and from all I am told by friends who do live there, there is no fiishing. But the country areas with land and fishing is a good bet even as far as the south of Scotland and just make regular trips to the Big Smoke (London) when we want....

they are talking about setting one up in bristol but there isnt a huge calling for it really, as you say its a mix, you dont really get the age divide, I have friends who are involved that are 18 and friends who are 60 its one of the nice things that generally most of the places are really welcoming if you are willing to just take a risk and talk to people.

Also as leatherist said, London is expensive I visit often enough travel in the uk isnt really the same as the US its a rather small place dontya know.
