Let's see if I can say this properly... I have heard a lot of people (myself included) complain about being 'checked in on' by the person topping them--like pausing to ask if they are okay, ask how they are feeling, etc. This used to happen with my dominant a lot until he knew me well enough that he no longer needed to ask me to figure out if everything was going smoothly. I guess it's just the nature of the beast. I'm usually very screamy and squirmy and if I react differently, he'll pause to ask me if I'm okay. So sometimes it still comes up. While I do think that in many cases it is necessary, it's usually not very hot. Make sense? So my question would be...how do you check in on someone in a 'hot' way? Touching them? A certain tone? etc etc

my Master checks in on my on a very regular basis.. i don't know how i would describe it exactly.. but its always hot. Maybe just because it's Him.. and i don't mean that in a kiss arse way, i just react very intensely to His voice, all it takes is a slight change of tone and.. poof.. i'm away with the fairys.. and yes.. even when He is just asking how i'm doing.

I've only had one that would ask me things like "am I hurting you?" when he was fucking me. And once he very gently tapped me with his belt and said "did that hurt". I just assumed he was being careful and feeling me out because he didn't know me very well. I wasn't really turned off by it, but I much prefer the ones who aren't afraid to hurt me, and who "check up" on me in more subtle ways, like by just looking at my face, or grabbing me by the hair and turning me towards them for a look. I can't really blame a guy who wants to make sure he's not hurting a chick, but it doesn't exactly make for a hot scene. I think reading a bottom comes with experience. And I sure as shit would NOT want to be the dom. I think they have a much tougher job.

Early on with my partners I used to do the same thing.... verbally ask where her headspace might be. It never really seemed to detract from scenes, but I realized over time that with whatever partner I might be with, I didn't really need to do much checking in. With my partner now, I'm exploring something new to me: choking. Although I doubt I'd ever elicit a safe word, I do receive a 'tap' when she knows we're on the brink of crossing a safety line. Even within a couple of inches or so, it's possible to find a place where a choke can go on for a minute or two, and other places where a few seconds is more than enough. I let her knowledge guide me in what I do to her, without anything being said (relevant to stopping or continuing). Whatever other mood is going on is kept going. Jeff
