Another source described the snub as an “unprecedented” breach between the Israeli Shin Bet and the U.S. Secret Service, which protects all current and former U.S. presidents, as well as Israeli leaders when they visit the United States.

If Jimmy carter wants to be a useful idiot and be used by comitted terrorists, than I'm fine with this

TheHeretic -> RE: Israel refused to guard Jimmy Carter (4/14/2008 6:16:57 PM)

Funny how things turn out.  I remember Dumbo being interrupted on TV for the signing of the peace deal he brokered with Egypt.

Until Hamas is willing to drop their key demand that all Israelis die screaming, fuck them, and zero sympathy for the people that elected them.  Their actions say they aren't interested in peace.  It's a weird call, but I'm going to say that Israel is absolutely right to snub Carter in this way.

Termyn8or -> RE: Israel refused to guard Jimmy Carter (4/14/2008 6:34:04 PM)

I am not taking a bite of this one. You know the history of the region and think that, it would just be a waste of keystrokes.

Why would anyone want to talk to those with differences? What has this ever solved?

Such a fine line between terrorists and freedom fighters.

After such a hapless presidency, you would expect that he would be smart and disappear from public life. But hard as it is to believe, he is even more of a failure now. That is quite an accomplishment.

I am a trained mediator. There are times when a side is so myopic that any talk whatsoever is futile and serves no meaning other than to prop up the myopic's point of view.

Assad and Hezbollah will see Israel pushed into the sea and all Jews removed from the land of Canaan before they will talk real peace. Jimmy Carter plays right into them and is the exact definition of a useful idiot.  There is no fine line here. The Goverment of Syria and The Hezzbollah Movement seek only victory and that vicory means the grenocide of all Jews in the region. How can any intelligent and reasoned person not see this?

slaveboyforyou -> RE: Israel refused to guard Jimmy Carter (4/14/2008 7:18:52 PM)

I am a little perplexed by that.  Jewish Americans generally vote for liberal Democrats.  They voted for Clinton in both elections overwhelmingly, and Clinton was the biggest appeaser to Palestinian interests.  I really don't get it.

You are right they are all a crazy bunch of Ayrabs...Any attempt at talk would be an incredible waste of time...Better just to leave things on the smooth course that they have and are currently running on.

I can see that with the common sense and the wisdom that you project out here that you have found a career that is truly befitting of your strengths.

FatDomDaddy -> RE: Israel refused to guard Jimmy Carter (4/14/2008 7:41:33 PM)

I think slaveboy that you will find that secular Jews (an oxymoron if I ever heard one) and reformed Jews (a sect that is overwhelmingly aligned to left politics vote for democrats. Conservative Jews, are probably split 55/45 to the democrats, mostly for historical reasons, while the Orthodox sects, lean toward the right.

Still... for purposes that best served their community, the Hasidim voted for Hilary in her Senate run. She is a Princess of Palistine yet they did not care. They had an agenda and Mrs. Clinton served it. What and why? It had to do with the theory that all politics are local. hence the reason why many American Jew vote democrat.

I agree with you. it is easily politics before conviction.

I am Catholic. I believe in the Zionist movement. I am an American who believes the Deceleration of Independence trumps any codified law that followed. (Even if its primary author was the most flawed great man in the history of the United States.) But it has become clear to me that I will never get into Heaven by being a great American.

In the words of the greatest Jew that ever walked the planet, "Give unto Cesar, that which is Cesar's"

Faith and Politics can but often do not mix nor should they often mix but when the option is genocide or survival, it is hard to understand why one group turns a blind eyes to genocide.

Just about sums up the Israeli regime.

You always show a great deal of ignorance on the Israeli Palestinian conflict like many rightwing Americans do. It was the Germans and not the Arabs that commited genocide. It was the Jewish zionists and not the Democrats that ethnically cleansed and stole Christian and Muslim Arab land and property.

But carry on, keep showing us how little you know.

Oh and as for quoting Jesus, there is not one, let me repeat, there is not one piece of primary source evidence that has Jesus saying anything. Everything Jesus is supposed to have said is as far as anyone knows, a complete fiction.

It amazes me as well how little people know about what is actually going on over there.  Then again what the hell it surprises me even more that people dont knwo what this government is doing here either.  Oh wait they watch the news, I stand down.

Stephann -> RE: Israel refused to guard Jimmy Carter (4/15/2008 8:02:04 AM)

Irony:  None of the posters (appear to) have a personal stake in the conflict, yet all express views, on both sides, just as stalwart and hostile as those actually involved, while simultaneously lamenting the fact that opposing sides won't listen.

You've made a lot of assumptions there. Especially for someone who lives in a country on the other side of the weorld that feeds the conflict and claims to believe in civilised values while supporting an allie that dailly breaks international law and just about every human rights charter that exists.

Perhaps you could ennumerate his assumptions? I seem to have missed them.

Carter must have dementia.

he needs to leave well enough alone.

Stephann's aside is a neat little journalistic trick to imply something and then claim he never said anything of the sort. But he said or implied, none of the posters have a personal stake in the conflict. Then claims the posters are as hostile as those involved. That the conflict has no resonance beyond the boundaries of the conflict.

Estring -> RE: Israel refused to guard Jimmy Carter (4/15/2008 10:13:01 AM)

Actually the US supports the country who daily has rockets launched into it's territory, killing innocent people.
That Israel defends itself because of these attacks seems the sensible thing to do. I wonder what the Netherlands would do if attacked in this manner? Probably nothing, just as they did nothing in WWII.
