What would be an appropriate application for a new club? Any help appreciated

MasterFireMaam -> RE: application for a club (4/15/2008 4:12:59 AM)

You're going to have to explain this a LOT more...this is very open ended and really hard to answer. More info, please?

Dominants should provide references in support of their application.

Submissives should provide references in apport of their supplication.

Application?  I don't know any clubs with a mandatory application process.  Anyone can go to Paddles in New York, Darkside in Berlin, Torture Garden in London, Abode or Purgatory in Melbourne etc etc

Making people apply and "prove" they are something or other might really put off a lot of newcomers who don't know what they are yet (and why should they?!).

I think being forced to apply (and then judged worthy or not by you?) would put me off going to the club.

I hate giving BDSM venues my name and email address.  One BDSM "educational institute" in Melbourne insists you must disclose your real legal name to them with ID, so we do not attend their seminars.  Not everyone wants to be out.

If you have to provide references then would you not seek references from the references and so on?  Op I have started a few clubs. First what is the club about and what are its goals.

There are very few clubs that can afford an application process... they generally need all the patrons they can get, including but not limited to those without references...

Fill out a form with an email address, sign the appropriate release and pay your money...

unless the club can afford to operate without money coming in?

You should only use an application if you know that is the best approach for you.

I didn't for a few years but then developed one for myself and my household. It works great for me and mine but I doubt very highly it is the best approach for most people.

Basically you need to weigh the questions you ask (and are willing to answer in return) along with those issues that are very important to you (not just kink, also mundane). If you discover that you have a high rate of wannabes that do not give you the information you need or you have just a high rate of being approached, then maybe (note the maybe) developing an application is a good idea.

If you do that be prepared to adjust it over the first few years you use it.

My first recommendation is to not use an application if you are actively looking or hoping to find a partner because they you are also on the market so to speak. If, as I have been in the past, you aren't looking but merely open to finding an additional (one) partner, then it can be very helpful to sort through high rates of email you may get.

For me, the application gives me one more means of detecting lies (I problem I had the first few years), sends a message that I am very serious about what I want by making a hurdle someone who claims to be serious needs to clear. Now please note that this application isn't a first step, it comes after I've been talking to someone for a week or so and I think they are worth getting an application from.

So, mistresszariah1, if you want more details about what I put in that application, send me an email and I can share it with you. But I think overall the best idea is to design one that fits your particular needs.

This is a private members only club, not a commercial anyone can walk in club, for example should I put the rules in the application and membership form? W/we want to put in a questionarie about beverage since W/we are offering it free what do you think?  The club is 2200 sq feet of play space and W/we want to screen members so W/we dont end up with all subs bois or crazy people who disclose out location or cause problems. the club will be private and members will have a chance to rent the whole building at a low cost , there will be specal events and perks  ect.

I'm a total idiot, completely ignore my post because I wasn't thinking "club" I was thinking personal application.

As for club's you might want to consult a lawyer and ask about the codes in your area because you will need to protect yourself and your club. That should lead to some specific questions and information you must have on your application such as legal name, social security number, etc.

I think that you are on the right track.  Personally I would make it a 6 month membership. I would also include a NDA and by them agreeing and signing the application they have agreed not to disclose information about you and other members of the club. What happens at your club, stays there. I would list the rules right on the application, and the consequences if they break club rules. Again, their signature signifies that they understand and agree to your terms.
What about club members who wish to bring a guest? If that is unacceptable, be sure and make that clear in the application.

Thinking about this, I am going to change my mind. You can use the above, but I think that I would have a small form for the application and then a legally binding contract for the actual membership. If they complain about it, then tell them about the open to the public venues up the road, trust me, they will reconsider. To belong to a private club has it's perks, and to get these perks, people must pay for them. Free drinks is a good start.  Are you talking about liquor? If so, do you have your liquor license in order?

It all sounds very exciting and fun! As it should be <s> Good luck and I hope I offered some nice suggestions, or at least something to think about :)
