I just wanted to make a small mention of this tragedy that is unfolding. And on another part of the world....

Guatemala

After all the mentions about the The terrible flooding and weather in the USA - I just felt compelled that other global problems in the last few days not mentioned.

My thoughts and prayers to all who may have relatives involved and those who are effected.

For those wishing to help.

my heart goes out too all of the victims this year has given "the global" us to care for - Tsumani's and earthquakes, wars and famine, boats and buses full of our country's most valuable resourse, our elderly, that flame and flip, forest fires and hurricanes, a little girl left alone in NYC without socks or shoes, children who have cancer, new born babies born .... So much for so many that must be done, with so few resources...human and animal, body and spirit, and so few hands to reach out. It all feels so overwhelming at times, especially when I try to explain "why" to my kids, when I don't know myself. <sign> i have nothing more than thoughts and time to offer.. and my constant prayers that each will find what they truly need.. and that they know, deep in the night, that they are not alone.

A few years back, I spent three weeks in the Chiapas / Guatemala descending down a little known river canyon. Guatemala is perhaps the most corrupt and uncivilized part of Central America. I can imagine how the rain and floods have ravaged the country, but in all honesty, Guatemala's squalid living conditions were bad enough already before the rain started.

Corruption is everywhere.
It does not make any 'disaster' less important.
(I do realise thats not what You were saying - I just had the need to say it myself)

You are absolutely correct. But after time passes and the destruction from these natural disasters subside, I wish a conscious effort could be made to do something about the enormous level of corruption that exists in places like Guatemala.
