Dear Members of the Mainland Chinese political elite, petty officials and nationalistic flag wavers;
We are sorry.
We are sorry you can't handle the scrutiny and criticism that inevitably accompanies a major event celebrating the global community. We know it's tough having your obvious failings and outright lies and deceptions paraded before an informed audience - especially one that cannot be as easily manipulated by one party propaganda and brute force. It must be very hurtful to have a mirror held up to you and see yourself the way the world sees you. Reality can be painful and the truth can hurt. We wish we could change that for you.
We know you want to take your torch and go home but we hope you will dry your indignant tears, put iodine on your grazed knees and try and play nicely. As soon as the games are over you can return to your ruthless repression and make all those who embarrassed you pay for their terrible crimes, like asking medical officials why they gave people HIV infected blood transfusions or that you remove your armed forces and occupying populations from their sovereign territories.
Sorry again for all the trouble we have caused you.
