Boy, this "globalization" and "free trade" crap just keeps getting better and better doesn't it?
My ancesters left Ireland (because) of potatos.

We were trying to be sensitive to Your feelings...didn't want to be accused of being stateists.

Yeah, I know, this crowd is so sensitive... so considerate of my feelings. In fact, I was discussing via emails with someone most of the day how extremely sensitive everyone here is.

I'm touched!

Add my voice to the chorus that says potato bread makes the best toast.  I love potato bread and I use it to make most sandwhiches - including grilled cheese sandwhiches - fucking yummy!

Sensitivity can be in the eye of the beholder sometimes though.

Dear lord. Whatever will happen to the "carbs are evil" movement [:D]?

It will be kept alive by those of us that know it's true. [;)]

Great new quote Marc.

You know, here I am a native Idahoan and I've never tried potato bread... but I'm going to have to now. Do grocery stores carry it?

They're talking about feeding the world's poor, the hungry. How could carbs be evil in that case?

Oh sure, be reasonable about it.......[:D]

Death is worse for a person than carbs. Beyond that, I can't say much good about them, Sanity.

Sanity -> RE: "As other staples soar, potatoes break new ground" (4/15/2008 7:57:23 PM)

You're speaking a foreign language to me. I couldn't gain weight until my mid-to-late thirties, I was always too thin, and even now at age 45 with just a modest work-out program I eat whatever I like and some really fabulous ladies turn their heads every day...

So what is this "carbs evil" thing, of which you speak. I no hable...

Yep...It is good toasted...It's heavy. Makes a nice subbie sandwich.

Stagflation has a way of taking precedence over the diet-of-the-month.

Hmm, a diet of the month that's been going on for decades......

Excess carbs trigger excess insulin, which wreaks havoc in the body. Generally speaking, that is. Some folks can smoke ten packs of cigs a day and be fine, some can eat carbs till the cows come home, with no ill effects.

You're from Idaho and you've never tried potato bread?  Jezz, that's like being from New York and never trying cheese.  Just for that, you must suffer the following indignaty:

(Doing my best Beavis and Butthead impersonation):
Heh, heh... heh, heh... I da ho... heh, heh... heh, heh.
Yeah, yeah... I... da ho! Yeah!
Shut up, Beavis!

As for finding potato bread well, all I can say is that it's in the grocery stores around here.  Hell, it's in the convenience stores around here.  All I can suggest is that you go look.  Should be in the bread isle.

Oh by the way folks, they make potato hot dog and hamburger buns too!

orfunboi -> RE: "As other staples soar, potatoes break new ground" (4/15/2008 8:26:25 PM)

Get Aunt Millies...soft, squishy, great for toasted cheese. [8|]

orfunboi -> RE: "As other staples soar, potatoes break new ground" (4/15/2008 8:28:31 PM)

Interesting, mine left Scottland because of it.

Lordandmaster -> RE: "As other staples soar, potatoes break new ground" (4/15/2008 8:31:02 PM)

Eh, it's petering out because the science behind it was pretty junky.  No one ever said that it's a great idea to eat a ton of unnecessary calories, but the anti-carb people were making astonishingly irresponsible comments about the effects of fat intake.
